Job Description

Job Requirements A Day in the Life of a Microbiology Tech Performs laboratory testing in microbiology department, including waived, moderate and high complexity, complying with applicable regulations of organizations governing laboratories and according to established procedures to aid the physician in the diagnosis and monitoring of patients. What You Will Be Doing:
Organizes and performs plate reading, molecular testing and other microbiology testing in the microbiology area that is assigned and in which employee is determined competent. Ensures Microbiology testing procedures and reporting are compliant with applicable laboratory governing bodies. Uses professional judgment to evaluate test results, troubleshoot complex microbiology problems and provide clinical interpretations to other healthcare staff. Assures quality Microbiology results through the use and evaluation of control materials, proper instrument maintenance, proper daily documentation and collection and analysis of appropriate samples. Performs routine function checks and maintenance on microbiology analyzers, troubleshoots and repairs instrumentation. Assists in the training of personnel in clinical microbiology procedures, equipment operation, quality control procedures, record keeping, and communication of normal and abnormal patient data in timely manner. Assists in developing new Microbiology procedures, methods, and education materials as needed. Utilizes Laboratory Information System (LIS) and network appropriately and efficiently. I understand that it is not within my scope of practice to handle any medications that I might inadvertently come in contact with, including medications delivered in the pneumatic tube system. If I do come in contact with medications, I know to alert a licensed employee for them to handle.
