Job Title:
Lab Technologist IIPosition Summary:
The Lab Technologist II is responsible for supporting product development, pilot-scale processing, and analytical evaluation of botanical extracts and related products. This role requires hands-on operation of laboratory and pilot equipment, execution of sensory and analytical testing, and collaboration with cross-functional teams to develop and scale products that meet customer and regulatory requirements.Key Responsibilities:
Operate pilot-scale and laboratory equipment, including percolators, stills, vacuum systems, glassware, and rotary evaporators. Prepare and fulfill sample requests in a timely manner; maintain familiarity with the sample library to recommend products aligned with customer needs. Develop product matches and new formulations based on customer specifications, including composition, physical properties, and target cost. Produce extracts, distillates, concentrates, and compounds using natural botanicals and appropriate solvent systems. Lead and administer sensory evaluation panels, including triangle and preference testing; interpret results to guide formulation and process decisions. Conduct analytical and physical testing (e.g., ABV, specific gravity, refractive index, pH, and other physical properties) to support both new product development and quality control of existing products; analyze data and communicate findings effectively. Manage product development projects, from initial customer brief through formulation, validation, and regulatory compliance. Collaborate with Production and Quality teams to troubleshoot technical challenges and support the successful scale-up and commercialization of new products. Adhere to all GMP and HACCP standards; consistently follow and apply laboratory SOPs when operating equipment and software.Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree in Chemistry, Food Science, Chemical Engineering, or a related field (or equivalent experience). 2-5 years of relevant laboratory or pilot plant experience, preferably in flavors, botanical extracts, or natural products. Strong understanding of extraction and distillation process. Experience operating analytical instrumentation and interpreting data for decision-making. Familiarity with sensory evaluation methods. Demonstrated ability to manage projects, prioritize tasks, and work both independently and collaboratively. Strong organizational, problem-solving, and technical communication skills.
