Job Description

Overview The School of Arts and Sciences (SAS) is the largest academic unit at Rutgers University and the center of the undergraduate experience on the Rutgers-New Brunswick campus and is comprised of 41 academic departments spanning the liberal arts. SAS offers more than 100 majors and minors across the life sciences, humanities, social and behavioral sciences, and mathematical and physical sciences with research centers and institutes across the school. Posting Summary Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is seeking a Laboratory/Technical Assistant for the School of Arts and Sciences - Geological Sciences. Among the key duties of this position are: Operates core scanning X-ray fluorescence (XRF) instrument. Manages data quality control, processing, and analysis. Prepares geological core samples for measurement. Handles and curate physical core archive materials. Maintains instrument logs and scan records. Contributes to large-scale core scanning projects.

Position Status:
Part Time Working Hours 19.5 Work Arrangement Consistent with the current application of Rutgers Policy 60.3.22 or the applicable provisions of relevant collective negotiations agreements, this position may be eligible for a hybrid work arrangement. Flexible work arrangements are not permanent, subject to change or discontinuation, and contingent on the employee receiving approval in the FlexWork@RU Application System.

Temporary Staff Appointment - Hourly Minimum Education and Experience Bachelor's degree in a scientific/technical discipline, or an equivalent combination of education and/or relevant laboratory technician or research study experience carrying out research protocols and tests, or other technical work may be substituted for the degree. Physical Demands and Work Environment Ability to lift boxes greater than 50 lbs. Ability to operate shop equipment. Ability to work safely in an environment with ionizing radiation following required training.
