Job Duties and Responsibilities:
In the capacity of working with NMDA in the Metrology Laboratory, must participate in Inter-laboratory comparisons with other State Laboratories and required National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST) and National Voluntary Laboratory Auditing Program (NVLAP). The metrologist for NMDA calibrates artifacts defined by its Scope of Recognition and/or Accreditation and ensures that the Laboratory remains recognized per New Mexico Weights and Measures Law Chapter 57, Article 17 by NIST in order to provide standard calibration services to NMDA and constituents. Apply measurement science, mathematics, physics, and engineering principles to develop and/or design and support measurement systems, processes, and procedures for calibration of inspection, measurement, and test equipment (IM&TE) based on analysis of measurement problems, accuracy and precision requirements. Use statistics to analyze calibration standards and processes. Evaluate new calibration methods and procedures. Recommend calibration standards. Monitor compliance with calibration laboratory and/or departmental quality systems. May develop software to assist in calibration laboratory and/or departmental processes. May perform laboratory and/or departmental administration and management.Qualifications Required Education and Experience:
Associate's Degree + 4 years of relevant experience or a Bachelor's degree + 2 years of relevant experience.Equivalent Qualifications:

Experience in the use of Microsoft Excel and other software. Science based background or coursework and experience in mathematics, physics, statistical analysis or physics.Special Certification/Licensure:
Must be able to lift 50 lbs. repetitively and obtain/maintain NMSU forklift certification. Successful completion of the basic math test from NIST Successful completion of the Fundamentals of Metrology, Mass Metrology, and Volume Metrology Seminars and their associated Laboratory Auditing Program problems within two years of hire.Working Conditions and Physical Effort Environment:
Work involves moderate exposure to unusual elements, such as extreme temperatures, dirt, dust, fumes, smoke, unpleasant odors, and/or loud noises.Physical Effort:
Considerable physical activity. Physical work is a primary part (more than 70%) of the job.Lifting Requirements:
Requires heavy physical work; heavy lifting, pushing, or pulling required of objects up to 50 pounds.Risk:
