Job Description

Tioga County Conservation District is seeking qualified applicants for a grant-funded, full time with benefits position of Resource Conservationist . The technician is responsible for administering the Dirt, Gravel, and Low Volume Road Environmentally Sensitive Maintenance Program and Agricultural Conservation Assistance Program. The position requires reviewing project applications, conducting program outreach, and performing construction inspections. The candidate for this position will possess the quality to be highly motivated and be people oriented. Excellent communication and interpersonal skills are essential to the success of this position. This position requires walking and traversing all types of terrain in all weather conditions.
REQUIRED KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES
  • The qualified applicant should have an Associate's Degree/Bachelor's Degree in an appropriate field or equivalent experience and a valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of soils, hydrology, land use, ecology, and natural resources
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn construction and maintenance Best Management Practices
  • Knowledge of or ability to learn state regulations as they relate to Chapter 102 Erosion and Sediment Control and Chapter 105 Water Obstruction and Encroachment Permits
  • Ability to apply the principles and methods of the physical sciences to technical engineering problems.
  • Ability to read and interpret technical literature, engineering plans and tables.
  • Ability to use the basic instruments and equipment required in the performance of technical engineering assignments. (Computer, digital camera, GIS, laser level)
  • Ability to perceive mechanical, physical and spatial relationships.
  • Ability or ability to learn and utilize surveying techniques
  • Must be able to perform routine duties without direct supervision both in an office and field setting Interested individuals must submit an application to Tioga County Courthouse by March 27, 2026.
