Health Physicist at Department Of Energy in Idaho Falls, Idaho, United States Job Description Summary These positions are to be filled under the OPM Government-Wide Direct Hire Authority for STEM Positions for grades
GS 12-15.
This serves as a public notice for the use of the Direct Hire Authority in accordance with 5 U.S.C. 3327 and 3330 and 5 CFR 330. Veterans shape the future of energy As a Health Physicist, you will: Participate in the implementation of Laws and DOE directives for incident investigations related to assigned programs that could have environmental, safety, or health consequences. Serve as a radiological controls subject matter expert on providing expert technical advice and assistance on radiological control to DOE entities including the offices of Nuclear Energy, Environmental Management, Environment, Health, Safety, and other Program Secretarial Offices. Conduct administrative and technical reviews on developing project plans and programs, ensuring compliance with DOE requirements, budgets, and quality standards related to assigned projects and programs. Serve as a point of contact for radiological control matters on radiation protection working groups and fulfilling related responsibilities. Provide professional advice and assistance on activities involving radioactive materials or exposure to radiation to ensure safety and prevent adverse environmental, safety, or health impacts. Evaluate applicability of and assesses contractor compliance with developing project plans and programs, ensuring compliance with DOE requirements, budgets, and quality standards. GS-13 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-12 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 OF THE 3 of the following: Assessing radiological training programs or radiation safety program performance for compliance with requirements. Providing guidance and/or assistance to organization personnel in the performance of radiation protection and radiological health and safety activities. Supporting with the development and drafting of radiation protection policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and international standards and/or regulations. For the
GS-14 SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS
A qualified candidate's online application and resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level GS-13 in the Federal service. Specialized experience for this position is defined as meeting 2 OF THE 3 of the following: 1. Assessing radiological training programs or radiation safety program performance for compliance with requirements. 2. Providing guidance and/or assistance to organization personnel in the performance of radiation protection and radiological health and safety activities. 3. Developing and drafting of radiation protection policies and procedures in accordance with federal, state, and international standards and/or regulations. "Experience" refers to paid and unpaid experience. Examples of qualifying unpaid experience may include: volunteer work done through National Service programs (such as Peace Corps and AmeriCorps); as well as work for other community-based philanthropic and social organizations. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills; and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Individual Occupational Requirements Basic Requirements:
Degree:
natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. or Combination of education and experience — courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. This vacancy has a positive education requirement. In order to be rated as qualified, you must provide copies of your college transcripts. Failure to provide copies of your college transcripts may result in a rating of "Ineligible". Education must be obtained from an accredited institution recognized by the U.S. Department of Education. Foreign education must be reviewed by an organization recognized by the U.S. Department of Education.
