Job Description

Reports directly to Medical Physicist-in-Chief or Associate Chief Medical Physicist, Department of Radiation Oncology, for clinical practice and administrative duties and responsibilities. In collaboration with other professional and support staff: establishes adequate protocols to ensure accurate patient dosimetry; measures and characterizes radiation to determine delivered dose; consults with physicians regarding treatment planning; and develops, maintains and directs radiotherapy and radiosurgery quality assurance programs. Conducts and participates in departmental research and development projects and in teaching activities for residents and students. Division of workload will be approximately 75% clinical, 20% research and teaching and 5% administrative.
Responsibilities:
  • These positions will provide physics coverage for St.
Anne's Hospital Hudner Oncology Center (Fall River, MA) and St. Anne's Hospital Regional Cancer Center (Dartmouth, MA). The physicists at these two sites are part of a bigger physics team comprised of nine physicists at the main campus in Rhode Island (about 45 minutes away). The larger physics team will work closely with these sites to ensure all necessary clinical support is seamlessly shared.
  • Currently, the two sites treat about 40 - 45 patients per day with three radiation oncologists and three dosimetrist positions.
The Hudner Cancer Center facility houses two Varian linear accelerators with on-board imaging and one CT simulator while the Regional Cancer Center in Dartmouth houses one Varian linear accelerator with on-board imaging and an Elekta HDR brachytherapy afterloader. These sites are poised for significant growth, supported by planned capital investments that will expand clinical capabilities and opportunities.
  • Software platforms within the Brown University Health network have been designed to foster a collaborative physicist environment between all sites within the network.
Treatment planning platforms utilized within our system include: RayStation, Oncentra, and Brain Lab Elements while ARIA is our Oncology Information System (OIS). Diagnostic Radiology imaging modalities within Brown University Health include state-of-the-art CT, MR, and PET imaging.
Qualifications:
  • MS or PhD degree in physics or medical physics.
  • Appropriate Board Certification.
  • Qualifications sufficient for a faculty appointment at Warren Alpert Medical School of Brown University at the faculty rank of Assistant Professor, Associate Professor or Full Professor.
