  • Department of Radiology The Medical University of South Carolina (MUSC) has an opening for a full-time Board Certified Diagnostic Medical Physicist.
The successful candidate will join a group of four medical physicists, will be an integral member of the MUSC team, travel to satellite sites and work independently to provide clinical medical physics services. Candidates with the appropriate educational background will be considered for a faculty appointment in the Dept. of Radiology. Primary Responsibilities Clinical Carry out annual performance evaluations of x-ray systems (fluoroscopy, radiography, mammography, and CT), magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) systems, ultrasound, nuclear medicine, etc. Oversee and review technologist quality control/quality assurance programs Support and consult with technologists, radiologists, and Radiation Safety staff with regard to clinical protocol management, dose assessment, and review of Radiation Protection Program elements Support and advise for license and accreditation of equipment (American College of Radiology (ACR), Department of Environmental Services (DES), The Joint Commission (TJC) Participate in training and education of staff, faculty and trainees Provide design, consultation, and assessment of shielding requirements. Evaluate integrity and adequacy of installed supplemental shielding Perform assessments of public exposure in areas surrounding x-ray rooms Provide advice on optimizing various diagnostic imaging procedures which utilize ionizing and non-ionizing radiation Academic Under the direction of the Division Chief, participate in teaching efforts of the Diagnostic Radiology residency and the Diagnostic Medical Physics residency Develop and contribute to Department research programs and/or pursue personal research interests through collaboration with other scientists and staff Depending on availability of time, apply for external / internal research funding Participate in local, regional and national committees and conferences, educational endeavors with the Department and professional development activities
Required Skills:
Excellent written and verbal communication skills Strong time management skills; motivated, flexible and collaborative Technical experience and understanding of state regulations, and accreditation criteria, process, and compliance. Familiarity with applicable regulatory guides, and regulations. A desire to demonstrate initiative and ownership of daily tasks and projects Capable of paying strict attention to detail, thorough, and well-organized Comfortable dealing with a variety of situations and different personalities Ability to actively solve problems by seeking, developing, and implementing viable solutions Ability to lift 50 lbs and drive with own vehicle to off-campus sites
Education and Experience Requirements:
