As part of TCEQ's Office of Waste, you would contribute to agency efforts to regulate the generation, treatment, storage, and disposal of various wastes and the cleanup of contaminated sites. See details about what we do. This position is a member of our Radioactive Materials Licensing Unit of the Radioactive Materials Division.HERE'S WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
Evaluate complex license applications for storage, processing, and disposal of low-level radioactive waste, by-product material, naturally occurring radioactive material, and source material recovery. Determine compliance with applicable laws, rules, technical principles, policies, and procedures; and process to completion. Conduct field assessments and surveys using radiation detection equipment. Provide information concerning authorizations and authorization processes to internal and external customers through verbal communication, correspondence, meetings, presentations, and public hearings. Assist customers regarding the program through verbal communication, correspondence, data reports, presentations, and responses to Public Information Requests (PIRs). Participate in policy and team development, such as maintenance of Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs), guidance document development, training, mentoring staff, and streamlining work processes.KEY QUALIFICATIONS

REQUIRED EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE HEALTH PHYSICIST I
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics, plus one (1) year of full-time experience in health physics, radiation sciences, nuclear engineering, or radiological control and safety work. OR Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics. OR Current certification by the American Board of Health Physics as a Certified Health Physicist (CHP).HEALTH PHYSICIST II
Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics, plus four (4) years of full-time experience in health physics, radiation sciences, nuclear engineering, or radiological control and safety work. OR Master's or Doctoral degree from an accredited college or university with a major in health physics, physical science, nuclear or environmental engineering, chemistry, radiological science, physics, genetics, or mathematics plus two (2) years of full-time experience as above. OR One (1) year of full-time experience as a Health Physicist I. OR Current certification by the American Board of Health Physics as a Certified Health Physicist (CHP). Employees in this classification series may research, work on, or have access to critical infrastructure, including but not limited to a communication infrastructure system, cybersecurity system, electric grid, hazardous waste treatment system, or water treatment facility. This position is also available as a lateral transfer opportunity (LTO) to TCEQ employees within the Health Physicist I-II state classification. The selected candidate must meet the minimum qualifications of the corresponding job in the Health Physicist I-II series.WORK SCHEDULE
Standard business hours are M-F, 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. Individual and work group schedule determined by the Radioactive Materials Licensing Unit of the Radioactive Materials Division.BENEFITS
