Job Responsibilities Oversees the daily operations of a radiation safety program to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by local, state, and federal agencies. Advises the university community regarding radiation safety protocols and procedures to ensure regulatory compliance as mandated by the relevant local, state, and federal regulatory agencies. Provides technical assistance and guidance on radiological control problems; advises permit holders on radioactive material inventory problems, shielding designs, waste handling procedures, dosimetry, and licensing requirements. Evaluates, collects, prepares, and inventories radioactive materials and/or hazardous chemicals for transport and disposal. Responds to emergency situations involving hazardous materials, radiation, or fire and smoke incidents; prepares reports of findings and submits recommendations. Evaluates, inventories, and tests sealed sources of radioactive materials. Monitors and instructs medical patients receiving exposure to hazardous substances during treatment procedures. Leads and guides the work of environmental health and safety technicians. May perform additional job duties as assigned. Additional Requirements Certification American Board of Radiology
  • Diagnostic Medical Physics upon start Licensure
  • Virginia Registered State Inspector within the first two months of hire, but must have submitted the application to the state at time of hire Certification
  • American Board of Radiology
  • Diagnostic Medical Physics upon start Experience
  • 3 years of experience in Clinical Medical Physics Education
  • Master's degree in Radiological Medical Physics
