GS-1306-14
some of your typical work assignments may include: Serves as the lead subject matter expert to develop, revise, and implement the Defense Threat Reduction Agency's Radiation Safety Program. Interprets Nuclear Regulatory Commission, Department of Transportation, and Department of Defense regulations to create tailored standards, champion concepts to keep exposure "as low as reasonably achievable," and establish radiological contingency protocols. Provides senior-level consultation on complex nuclear materials and radiation-producing equipment. Evaluates plans for hazardous operations, briefs senior leadership (including the Nuclear Regulatory Commission and Department of Defense), and drafts technical reports regarding radiological conditions affecting global missions. Conducts facility inspections and audits, with the authority to terminate unsafe operations. Administers dosimetry and bioassay programs, investigates unexpected exposures, and designs and delivers innovative radiation safety training across the agency. This position is telework eligible Must be able to obtain and maintain a
TOP SECRET/SCI
security clearance. Subject to pre-employment drug testing and periodic random drug testing thereafter. Overtime/compensatory time may be required to accommodate operational needs of the organization. Valid Passport required. The employee must be willing to comply with each Combatant Command (COCOM) travel medical requirement to include vaccinations. Qualifications You may qualify at the GS 14 , if you fulfill the following qualifications: A. One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-13 grade level in the Federal service, military or private sector: Administering radioactive material programs and ionizing radiation sources licensed by the Nuclear Regulatory Commission or Agreement States Developing and administering a comprehensive radiation safety program, including training, dosimetry, handling, use, storage, compliance surveys, inventory controls, operating and emergency procedures, and/or shipping of special nuclear materials Leading a quality assurance program for shipping special nuclear materials in compliance with 10 CFR 71; Providing technical assistance and feedback on radiation safety policy development within and outside the organization In addition to meeting qualifications, your application package must reflect the applicable experience to meet the Individual Occupational Requirements for the 1306, series as listed below:
Degree:
natural science or engineering that included at least 30 semester hours in health physics, engineering, radiological science, chemistry, physics, biology, mathematics, and/or calculus. (Must provide transcripts; unofficial are permitted) Combination of education and experience -- courses as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or other education; or certification as a health physicist by the American Board of Health Physics, plus appropriate experience and other education that provided an understanding of sciences applicable to health physics comparable to that described in paragraph A. (Must provide transcripts and experience clearly demonstrated in resume) Education Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
