Senior R D Manager BIOS Firmware and Validation Description
  • Within the HP Z Workstations organization, we are looking for a senior manager to provide technical and people leadership for a team of software and firmware engineers, driving the strategy, development, and delivery of firmware solutions for hardware devices and embedded platforms.
This role partners closely with cross‑functional teams to set technical direction, ensure execution and quality excellence, and deliver reliable, high‑performance firmware at the core of HP Workstation computers. The position also oversees limited third‑party vendor relationships, leads effective resource planning, and balances workloads to meet program and business objectives.. Responsibilities Leads the BIOS/Firmware development and Validation teams Defines and drives overall BIOS/firmware development strategy, setting technical goals, priorities, and milestones. Reviews and evaluates designs and project activities for compliance with systems design and development guidelines and standards; provides tangible feedback to improve product quality and mitigate failure risk. Oversees the firmware engineering project team, along with development partners responsible for various stages of design and development. Leads system validation team with dedicated internal and external resources. Establishes alliances with other departments and organizations by recognizing dependencies to ensure partnership and commitment to programs. Manages headcount, deliverables, schedules, and costs for multiple ongoing projects, ensuring that resources are appropriately allocated and that goals, objectives, timelines, and budgets are met in accordance with programs and roadmaps. Supports firmware related discussions and brings in experts to consult on a variety of product related and customer inquiries. Acts as overall firmware leader to provide perspective to cross-organization projects, programs, and activities. Works closely with dedicated recruiting staff to expand the team, including sourcing candidates, interviewing candidates, and where necessary participating in conferences/events, and onboarding of new employees. Drives innovation and integration of new technologies into projects and activities in the firmware development organization. Ensures strong development plans and mentoring relationships are in place for all levels of engineers. Supports preparation and creation of instructional technical content related to firmware operation. Education & Experience Recommended Four-year or Graduate Degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Electrical Engineering, or any other related discipline or commensurate work experience or demonstrated competence. 10+ years of job-related experience or 8-10 years of management experience, preferably in firmware development, or a related field.
