In this role you will provide leadership and management for the technical and administrative work in the WMT group. This position will work collaboratively with the PRIDE Program Manager to provide strategic oversight for the PRIDE program, ensuring alignment with broader laboratory objectives and mission priorities without direct involvement in day-to-day program operations. Your responsibilities include oversight for maintaining, enhancing, and implementing new major weapons design and engineering software tools. You will contribute to the development of objectives and principles for managing weapons technologies working closely with colleagues, managers, and other stakeholders at
LANL, DOE
Headquarters, and other NSE sites; and you will lead teams of solutions architects and software scientists that support implementation and maintenance of new and existing mission software tools. In your PRIDE oversight capacity, you will facilitate resource allocation, support strategic decision-making, and ensure program integration with divisional goals. What You Need Minimum Job Requirements:
Software For this role you will need to have a thorough and advanced understanding of software development principles, implementation of commercial off-the-shelf software packages, database administration, system administration, data management and security. The software tools supported for mission applications are open unique and require considerable external interface with our NNSA partners. You must also have professional-level experience and demonstrated skill in conducting research, investigating alternative solutions, and recommending solutions on problems related to mission technologies. Classified Systems To succeed you will need to have proven experience designing, building, and maintaining classified systems and platforms. Project Management Advanced experience providing strategic direction in the formulation of technical solutions and leading complex projects from inception through implementation and coordinating between scientific users, technical teams, and other stakeholders. We will be looking for a record of successfully completed projects on time and within budget. Program Management You must have proven experience working with federal program managers to advocate for funding and manage scope tied to funding received in an effort to support tools and services needed by the mission organizations. Mentoring/Leadership You must have leadership experience successfully leading and mentoring junior staff. Education/Experience :
The position requires a Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution and eight (8) years related experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience directly related to the occupation. Desired Qualifications :
Advanced degree in physics, engineering, mathematics, computer science or related technical area Experience working within LANL's Weapons Programs Practical knowledge of LANL business systems, operational and work processes, administrative practices and procedures, and key Laboratory points of contact Experience and knowledge in the field of cyber security Work Location :
The work location for this position is onsite and located in Los Alamos, NM. All work locations are at the discretion of management. Position commitment : Regular appointment employees are required to serve a period of continuous service in their current position in order to be eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Selected applicants will be subject to a background investigation conducted by or on behalf of the Federal Government, and must meet eligibility requirements• for access to classified matter. This position requires a Q clearance, and obtaining such clearance requires US Citizenship except in extremely rare circumstances. Dependent upon the position, additional authorization to access classified information may be required, which may or may not be available to dual citizens. Receipt of a Q clearance and additional access authorization ultimately is a decision of the Federal Government and not of Triad. •Eligibility requirements : To obtain a clearance, an individual must be at least 18 years of age; U.S. citizenship is required except in very limited circumstances. The Laboratory requires successful applicants to complete a new-employment drug test and maintains a substance abuse policy that includes random drug testing. Although New Mexico and other states have legalized the use of marijuana, use and possession of marijuana remain illegal under federal law. A positive drug test for marijuana will result in termination of employment, even if the use was pre-offer. Regular position : Term status Laboratory employees applying for regular-status positions are converted to regular status. Internal Applicants :
Regular appointment employees who have served the required period of continuous service in their current position are eligible to apply for posted jobs throughout the Laboratory. Position is eligible to participate in the Triad Incentive Compensation Program. You must be in an eligible position for a minimum of 3 months, before July 1st and remain in an eligible position as of the end of the fiscal year, September 30th.
