  • External R D Partnership Lead, Medical Devices and Software
  • PURPOSE
  • The External R D Partnership Lead, Medical Devices and Software will be responsible for building and managing supplier ecosystem that aligns with the Radiology R D roadmap.
You will oversee the entire supplier lifecycle from strategic definition and market scouting to contract negotiation and performance governance ensuring high-quality collaboration across both software and hardware development. The role will build a functional external network while protecting Bayer's intellectual property and ensuring business compliance. The primary location for this role will be Pittsburgh, PA.
  • YOUR TASKS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
  • + •Strategic Partnership and Supplier Planning•+ Map supplier capabilities against R D needs to identify gaps in hardware and software engineering, innovation, and regulatory competencies; + Develop long-term sourcing strategies that balance innovation, cost, and lifecycle support.

  • Scouting & Vendor Selection
  • + Evaluate external design and service suppliers to generate scouting insights; + Develop tailored RFI/RFP packages for medical device and software development projects covering technical, regulatory, and cybersecurity requirements; + Execute rigorous due diligence on financial stability and compliance readiness. +
  • Contract & Operational Management
  • + Define and negotiate complex contract structures, including MSAs, Development Agreements, and Licensing terms; + Secure critical clauses related to
  • Intellectual Property (IP)
  • , data rights, warranties, and continuity of supply; + Establish change control mechanisms, quality and Service Level Agreements (MSA, SLAs). +
  • Governance & Performance
  • + Design a governance framework defining roles and escalating paths between leadership and suppliers; + Develop performance dashboards and scorecards to track quantitative and qualitative KPIs; + Proactively manage risks and conduct periodic audits to ensure compliance with Bayer expectations on product development. +
  • Key Working Relations:
  • + Product Development team members and respective sub-teams; + Home functional leaders and home team members in Device and Software R D; + Bayer Radiology R D Leadership Team and Capability Cluster Heads in R D; + Bayer Radiology Quality and Procurement organization.
  • WHO YOU ARE
  • Bayer seeks an incumbent who possesses the following:
  • Required Qualifications:
  • + Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in business or engineering discipline; + Minimum of 10 years of experience in managing end to end value chain from definition to realization; + Strong negotiation skills in business modeling and contract drafting (IP, Licensing, NRE); + Experience in project management covering roadmap, spend analysis and QBR cycles; + Knowledgeable in areas of product development, including medical hardware and software; + Entrepreneurial mindset and courage to constantly challenge ways of working and status-quo, strives for continuous improvement; + Strategic thinker with the ability to influence decision making, strong stakeholder management capabilities; + Demonstrates strong leadership skills as well as interpersonal and organizational skills, ability to lead and manage a cross-functional team, along with problem solving and conflict resolution; + Collaborates with accountability; collaborates and holds each other accountable in and across teams.
  • Desired Qualifications:
  • + Procurement experience and understanding preferred.
This posting will be available for application until at least 5/5/2026. Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $150,400.00 - $225,600.00. Additional compensation may include a bonus or commission (if relevant). Other benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, PTO, sick leave, etc. If selected for this role, the offer may vary based on market data/ranges, an applicant's skills and prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and other relevant factors.
