Job Description

Job Description Overview The Department of Entomology and Plant Pathology is seeking a Research Associate to assist with research focused on insect vector-borne plant diseases. The appointment is for an initial period of three years with possibility to continue, contingent upon performance and availability of funding. Responsibilities Management of insect colonies and experimental insect populations. Ordering of laboratory supplies and tracking of purchases. Inventory management for reagents, kits, and common-use materials. Assistance with protocol development and implementation. Planning and organizing experiments based on current funding priorities and lab needs. Coordination of materials, timelines, and workflow for active projects. Supervision of undergraduate students, including scheduling, assignment of routine tasks, monitoring performance, and reinforcing expectations for appropriate laboratory conduct. Coordination of activities between Ag-STEM and Pesticide Research, including movement between buildings as needed. Participation in weekly lab meetings. Periodic presentation of work when actively conducting experiments.
Qualifications Level I:
Master's degree in Entomology, Plant Science, Bioagricultural Science, or a closely related field.
Level II:
Master's degree in Entomology, Plant Science, Bioagricultural Science, or a closely related field and 2 years of experience in research practices and protocols.
Level III:
Master's degree in Entomology, Plant Science, Bioagricultural Science, or a closely related field and 4 years of experience in research practices and protocols.

Yes, When a candidate has the required education, but lacks the required experience, they may normally apply additional appropriate education toward the experience requirement, at a rate of one (1) year relevant education per year of required experience.
