Job Description Position Summary The University of Alabama at Birmingham, Ped - Infectious Disease, is seeking a dedicated and experienced Researcher Specialist to join their team. General Responsibilities As a Researcher Specialist, you will be recognized as an expert in your field, leading specialized research initiatives with a high level of autonomy. This professional-level position entails developing innovative research methodologies, securing external funding, and influencing the strategic direction of research programs. Your role will also involve extensive collaboration with internal and external stakeholders, disseminating research findings, and driving technological advancements. Depending on the research focus, this position may involve research collaborator contact, research animal contact, and/or specimens. Key Duties & Responsibilities Perform a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques including mammalian cell culture, virus propagation, western blotting, ELISA, PCR, DNA preparation and analysis, RNA isolation and analysis (including RT-PCR, bulk and single-cell RNA sequencing), protein production and purification, and immunohistochemistry. Conduct experiments using a congenital cytomegalovirus (CMV) infection model, including infection of newborn mice with murine cytomegalovirus, animal dissection, tissue isolation, preparation of frozen sections, and hearing assessments in mice. Isolate pluripotent stem cells from mice and assist with the development and analysis of organoid models to support research on congenital CMV infection. Assisting in writing proposals, presentations, and manuscripts describing the results of the research. General lab duties, i.e. autoclaving waste and dishware, supply inventory, animal colony maintenance and handling of compliance issues with local and governmental entities such as EHS, IACUC, etc. Maintaining accurate laboratory data records. Provide support to faculty and staff by assisting with research activities, coordinating laboratory needs, preparing materials and supplies, maintaining organization of research data and equipment, and supporting the daily operational functions of the laboratory. Perform other duties as assigned.
Salary Range :
$ 60,835- $ 98,855 Qualifications Qualifications Doctorate degree in a related field OR Master's degree in a related field and two (2) years of related experience OR Bachelor's degree in related field and four (4) years of related experience required. Work experience may NOT substitute for education requirement.
