Division Academic Affairs Department 421200 - Marine Sciences Minimum Qualifications Master's degree in a physical or natural science from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama, three years of professional experience in a public health, medical, clinical or research laboratory, possession of a valid driver's license and maintenance of a driving record sufficient to maintain insurance coverage under the University of South Alabama. Current vessel operator's license/boaters' safety certificate is required. Preferred Qualifications Experience operating research vessels is preferred. Job Description Summary The University of South Alabama's Stokes School of Marine and Environmental Sciences is seeking to hire a Research Assistant II. Interested candidates should apply to be considered. Essential Functions These are the job duties required of the position. Essential Functions Directs the daily activities for a couple of research projects including planning, coordination and execution. Supervises undergraduate and graduate students working on the project. Oversees and performs field and lab work including: field surveys, lab processing, lab water quality analyses in the lab, maintaining quality assurance, and training students in safe practices. Manages laboratory budgets. Maintains relationships with the research project's partners and stakeholders. Coordinates and plans project meetings. Participates in the hire of new interns. Performs project reporting. Utilizes University vehicles and operates research vessels. Regular and prompt attendance. Ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required. Related duties as required.
