The Yukon-Kuskokwim Health Corporation is a Tribal health care organization, serving nearly 30,000 people living across rural, southwest Alaska in villages with populations from about 10 to more than 1,000. Bethel, the regional hub and location of the only hospital in the region, has a population of nearly 7,000. The Yukon-Kuskokwim Delta is home to thousands of lakes and two primary rivers—the Kuskokwim and Yukon. Position Summary:
The Research Associate will support YKHC approved studies and projects by reading, understanding and adhering to SOPs, MOPs, and protocols. This position effectively explains a study and successfully and safely performs study procedures (ie nasal swab, finger stick, blood draw, lab processes, survey, etc.) The Research Associate assists in running logics, proficiently recruits and conducts study activities as part of a research protocol. Assists with all phases of the day-to-day implementation of the research study under direction of the specific study Principal Investigator (PI), YKHC Research Office, and/or onsite YKHC designated PI. May work with field staff, community participants, community leaders, elders, hospital staff and others to successfully conduct the study; giving presentations about the study at community events, enrolling subjects; obtaining informed consent from participants; conducting health assessments, facilitating individual interviews; and coordinating and conducting follow-ups of study participants. The Research Associate may be required travel to remote communities in the Y-K Delta region. This position provides research activities and clinical support including but not limited to the informed consent process, documentation, blood draws, nose swabs, pre-analytical processing of labs in a timely manner. This position is subject to the availability of grant funds.Position Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. The incumbent must possess excellent organizational skills, the ability to effectively coordinate multiple projects simultaneously, and demonstrate strong leadership skills. The Research Associate will also be expected to demonstrate excellent written and oral communication skills, a willingness to work with various cultural/ethnic groups, laypeople and medical professionals, the ability to learn new theories about study topics (such as tobacco addiction) and to develop interviewing and group moderation skills (as needed and required by study work), and the ability to enter data accurately into a computer program. Minimum Education GED or High school diploma required. Community Health Aide III or higher preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred. Minimum Experience Community Health Aide/Practitioner work experience in a healthcare setting preferred. Two years' work in healthcare setting or two years clinical work (adept at phlebotomy, vitals, etc.) required Work experience sufficient to have acquired and developed the knowledge, skill and ability to perform the minimum functions of the position. License, Certification, Registration n/a Equipment/Tools/Word-Aides Must have demonstrable intermediate to expert level computer proficiency with various software including Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel, and Outlook. Specialized Knowledge and Skills Bilingual Yup'ik/English strongly preferred. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability and willingness to become trained to be proficient in any study activities (depending on the study this could be things like Calricaraq, focus group facilitating, tobacco cessation theory and counseling of pregnant women, etc) Computer skills with ability to type 40wpm and ability to utilize standard office equipment. Must be able to work independently and as part of a team to complete tasks as assigned and meet reporting and completion deadlines with attention to detail. Must be able to complete a variety of tasks simultaneously, prioritize workload, and meet reporting and completion deadlines with attention to detail. Be capable of relating to individuals at all levels including laypeople and medical professionals. Supervisory Responsibilities Must be able to work both in a team environment and work independently. Opportunities to supervise or lead team projects/lead full study projects may become available after first six months.Additional Information:
