To begin approximately in June or as soon thereafter, not to exceed May 15, 2027, annually renewable, depending on availability of funding, program needs, and satisfactory performance The Graduate Assistant (GA) will engage in an exploratory, inquiry-driven role within Ke Ao Mau initiatives, supporting the ongoing development of culturally grounded, community-engaged approaches at the intersections of social work and public health. This position is designed to allow the GA to cultivate and define a pathway of inquiry that contributes to the advancement of interdisciplinary knowledge, practice, and community impact. Duties and Responsibilities Design and pursue an individualized area of inquiry that explores intersections between social work and public health within the context of Ke Ao Mau. Identify and synthesize relevant themes, frameworks, and practices that support culturally anchored, community-based approaches to health and well-being. Contribute to the evolving conceptualization of interdisciplinary connections across social work and public health. Conduct exploratory activities, including literature reviews, environmental scans, and/or community-informed inquiry. Translate emerging insights into accessible formats such as briefs, presentations, or visual materials. Support the documentation and dissemination of Ke Ao Mau-related learning, projects, and outcomes. Support relationship-building efforts with community partners, including 'aina connected organizations. Contribute to the alignment of student learning, community engagement, and program goals. Work in collaboration with faculty to support programmatic activities and emerging initiatives. Participate in discussions that inform the development of Ke Ao Mau programming. Provide flexible support across initiative activities as aligned with the GA's evolving inquiry focus. Assist in developing and sharing content related to Ke Ao Mau projects through various platforms (e.g., reports, presentations, email communications, conference submission, outreach materials, etc). Contribute to storytelling and visibility efforts that highlight interdisciplinary and community-engaged work. Other duties as assigned Minimum Qualifications Be a classified degree-seeking student in a Masters or PhD program in Social Work, Public Health or related field under UHM Graduate Division; Be in good academic standing and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or above Maintain 6 credits per semester with the exception of those who have reached 800 (dissertation) or 700F (thesis) Strong interest in cultural practices Strong interest in interdisciplinary and community-based research Strong experience with Zoom, oral, writing, and interpersonal skills Desirable Qualifications Bachelor's or master's degree in social work, public health, or related field Experience in social work or related field Experience with Native Hawaiian and Pacific populations Ability to generate project reports Competency in cross-cultural community work Experience in development of conceptual models of health for Indigenous communities in the Pacific Strong communication and organizational skills, with the ability to work both independently and collaboratively.
