  • Non-UI Student Working Title Laboratory Research Associate Details Dr.
Ganesan's lab in the Department of Periodontics is seeking an Undergrad Research Associate. The lab focuses on basic, clinical translational projects and clinical trials investigating oral microbiome-host interactions in periodontal health and disease in specific patient populations.
Specific duties will include:
  • Providing laboratory assistance including solution preparation
  • Equipment cleaning, washing and maintenance
  • Monitoring tests and experiments in a supervised academic research setting
  • Cataloging, and cleaning field equipment, and data entry
  • Assisting with some general laboratory tasks.
  • Prepare media and solutions
  • Extract genomic and plasmid DNA, and RNA
  • Working with the primary epithelial cell culture from patients with and without obesity
  • Performing PCR, Western blot, fluorescent microscopy and culturing microorganisms
  • Collecting and analyzing data and be responsible for keeping a laboratory notebook
  • Will be responsible for preparing and autoclaving standard laboratory solutions and media Desirable qualifications:
  • Demonstrated knowledge in human anatomy, chemistry, biology
  • Pre-dental degree major
  • Demonstrated ability to work in a team setting
  • Demonstrated communication skills Work schedule: M-F, between hours of 8:00am
  • 5:00pm.
As close to 18-20 hours / week as possible, flexible.
Rate of Pay:
$11.00/Hour Contact
