Position Description:
The University of Iowa Health Care Department of Neurology is seeking a creative, enthusiastic, and highly motivated Post Doctoral Research Scholar for the Narayanan Laboratory. This full-time position will provide scientific and technical leadership in management, design, and conduct of neuroscience research. Specific projects will include research involving neural mechanisms of cognition and neurodegeneration using advanced in vivo approaches (e.g., head-fixed in vivo electrophysiology or imaging in rodent models). The Postdoc will also participate in data acquisition, quantitative analysis, and dissemination of results.
Duties to include:
Designing and executing experiments Maintaining research databases Collecting and analyzing data Assisting with writing and revising manuscripts, grant proposals, abstract submission, and publications Coordinating and managing pre-clinical or clinical trials Please note: This position is for a limited duration not to exceed five (5) years unless there are unusual circumstances. Initial term of appointment will be 12 months. Appointment may be renewed based on funding availability.

About the lab:
The Narayanan Laboratory is part of the Iowa Neuroscience Institute and the Department of Neurology, offering a collaborative environment with access to advanced facilities and interdisciplinary expertise.
Education Requirement:
PhD or MD with relevant research experience. PhD in Neuroscience preferred.
Required Qualifications:
Documented experience performing head‑fixed in vivo electrophysiology or imaging in rodents. Demonstrated ability to independently conduct, troubleshoot, and maintain complex experimental pipelines. Strong quantitative and computational skills, including experience with large‑scale neural data analysis. Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Desirable Qualifications:
Experience with rodent surgical procedures, viral tools, and behavioral training. Familiarity with prefrontal cortex function, cognitive tasks, or neurodegeneration models.
