$55,000 to $65,000 per year The Research Specialist in the Department of Internal Medicine contributes to the design, execution, and management of research projects supporting clinical, population health, and translational research initiatives. This role collaborates with faculty and investigators to develop protocols, manage data workflows, ensure regulatory compliance, and facilitate high‑quality research operations within Internal Medicine. Position Summary This position contributes to the design and delivery of research projects and collaborates with researchers to develop, execute and interpret research projects. Performs complex data collection and study methods. Duties & Responsibilities Collaborate with Principle Investigator and researchers to develop objectives and design of research projects and proposals. Formulate and conduct research studies and analyses. Performs complex data collection and study methods. Analyze and evaluate research results. Replicate, refine and add new research approaches based on project needs. Test, customize and implement new methods and procedures. Develop and write advanced, comprehensive protocols. Monitor project developments on an ongoing basis. Propose and implement changes as needed. Contribute material, prepare results and assist in the writing of research findings for publications, papers, presentations, grants, and other documents for publication. Assist principal investigator in grant and manuscript submission. Guide, train and advise lower level researchers and students on techniques, methods and procedures. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Additional Department Duties Collaborate with Internal Medicine Principal Investigators to design and develop research projects and study protocols. Conduct complex research activities including data collection, study coordination, and analytical support. Implement and refine research procedures and methodologies based on project needs. Develop, maintain, and update comprehensive study protocols and documentation. Track project milestones, identify roadblocks, and recommend process improvements. Coordinate multi‑site or cross‑departmental research efforts within Internal Medicine and affiliated clinical partners. Manage data entry, reporting, and quality review using systems such as REDCap or EHR‑based study tools. Prepare IRB submissions, amendments, renewals, and regulatory reports; ensure full compliance with university, hospital, and sponsor requirements. Prepare materials for manuscripts, abstracts, presentations, and grant applications. Train and support junior research personnel, residents, students, and study staff. Support clinical research integration across Internal Medicine subspecialties (e.g., Infectious Disease, Cardiology, Pulmonology). Perform other department‑assigned duties as needed. Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned. Minimum Qualifications Bachelor's degree in social science or related field required. Master's degree in social science preferred. A minimum of 3 years related research experience. Possesses and applies advanced knowledge of research principles, concepts, practices and methods Preferred Qualifications Master's degree in science, social science, or public health preferred. Experience with REDCap, SAS, R, or comparable analytical tools. Experience working in Internal Medicine or similar clinical research settings. Familiarity with OSF, UICOMP, or central IRB procedures. Experience working in healthcare or clinical environments preferred. Knowledge of research methodology, regulatory processes, and data analysis.
