PED-GASTROINTESTINAL BASIC RES
(IN-PGIB-IUINA) Department Information The Herman B Wells Center for Pediatric Research (The Wells Center) conducts basic science and translational research within the Department of Pediatrics at Indiana University (IU) School of Medicine. The Wells Center houses more than 300 faculty investigators, staff, and trainees seeking answers to the most pressing questions related to childhood illness. With the collaboration between scientists and physicians, the center aims to increase knowledge of causes and mechanisms of serious pediatric diseases. Our goal is to develop innovative approaches to the diagnosis and treatment of sick children in Indiana and beyond. Job Summary We are seeking a highly skilled Research Analyst to oversee mouse breeding strategies, specialized animal model acquisition, and experimental setup in a dynamic research laboratory. This role is central to maintaining the laboratory's animal resources and supporting both in vitro and in vivo studies. Department-Specific Responsibilities Develops and manages mouse breeding strategies, adjusting breeding flow and colony size based on current and projected laboratory research needs. Coordinates and executes specialized animal model orders, including those involving specific dosage requirements, complex genetics, novel models, toxins, or drug research protocols. Serves as the laboratory's primary specialist for hepatocyte isolation, performing technically advanced procedures critical to ongoing research programs. Conducts the majority of the laboratory's in vitro experimental work. Sets up and coordinates most in vivo experiments, ensuring protocols are executed efficiently and in accordance with research objectives and compliance standards. Collaborates closely with principal investigators and research staff to align animal resources and experimental timelines with project goals. General Responsibilities Performs highly complex and intricate laboratory experiments. Leads protocol development, data analysis, and report preparation. Maintains safety records and ensures safety/compliance procedures and protocols are followed. Hires, trains, and supervises lab staff and student employees; assures observation of safety policies. Maintains fiscal accountability of the program and approves all expenditures for the lab. May develop, prepare, and coordinate grant applications and grant-related activities to obtain funding for research projects and related work. May present research findings to staff, leadership, and external partners. Qualifications This position is posted at the Advanced Career Level but may be filled at the Career Career Level depending on the candidate's qualifications. Although they will be similar, the duties and responsibilities may differ if filled at the lower rank. Please see the qualifications for each level listed below.

EDUCATION / WORK EXPERIENCE
Required Master's degree in a science related field plus 3 years of research experience; OR Bachelor's degree in a science related field plus 6 years of research experience. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Seeks to acquire knowledge in area of specialty. Highly thorough and dependable. Understanding of scientific theory and practical knowledge methodology.

EDUCATION
Required Bachelor's degree in a related field. Preferred Master's degree in a related field.
WORK EXPERIENCE
Required 3 years of related work experience. Preferred Experience working with pre-clinical models (e.g., mice). Experience in animal related studies (e.g., mouse genotyping, colony maintenance, PCR genotyping, mouse
PO/IP/SQ/IV
drug administration and tissue dissection).
LICENSE AND CERTIFICATES
Preferred Veterinary technologist certification or equivalent. SKILLS Required Proficient written and verbal communication skills. Maintains a high degree of professionalism. Demonstrated time management and priority setting skills. Demonstrates a high commitment to quality. Possesses flexibility to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment. Working Conditions / Demands The role regularly requires the ability to effectively communicate. The role frequently requires the ability to move about the work environment and to position oneself to operate laboratory equipment effectively. The role requires the ability to move objects weighing up to 25 pounds and will occasionally work near moving mechanical parts. Work Location Indianapolis, Indiana Advertised Salary Advanced:
$65,000 - $75,000 per year based on a combination of experience, skill level, education, and training.
Career:
$55,000 - $65,000 per year based on a combination of experience, skill level, education, and training.
