Required License/Registration/Certification Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) or Physician Assistant-Certified (PA-C) with appropriate certification Physical Requirements Lifting, pushing, pulling objects up to 50 pounds Shift Varied; includes days, nights, and weekends Job Summary The Critical Care Medicine Division of the Department of Anesthesiology at the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Kentucky is seeking a post-Acute Care APP Fellow to add to its practice of 50 Attendings with 10 Board-certified intensivists and 15 Advanced Practice Providers (APPs) as we expand our current service line. Under the supervision of clinical mentors, the APP Fellow is a 12-month position that will consist of precept clinical practice, didactic teaching, and simulation skills training. As a member of the Division of Critical Care Medicine, the APP Fellow, with APP mentor collaboration, will have the opportunity to manage highly complex and critically ill populations including hemorrhagic and ischemic strokes, traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, and neuro-interventional patients following aneurysm coiling. Other complex, critically ill patient populations under APP care include post-thoracic surgery, liver transplants, and patients on ECMO. In precept practice, the Fellow will learn to obtain patient histories, perform physical examinations, order, perform, and interpret diagnostic tests, prescribe medications, and develop treatment plans. The Fellow will participate in case management and continuing care of complex post-surgical patients. The Fellow will learn to collaborate, refer, and consult with department attending physicians, specialists, and other members of the health care team to deliver effective, efficient, safe, and high quality care. The Fellow will be exposed to the APP role in contributing to organizational and departmental continuous performance and quality improvement projects. The Fellow will participate in education and research efforts for patients, families, and the health care team. As a learning member of a University Department dedicated to and nationally recognized for excellence in medical education, the APP Fellow will have access to many educational resources. There will be a robust didactic and clinical curriculum, with many simulation components. The APP Fellowship is designed for new graduates of acute care programs who are interested in in-depth post-graduate training in a critical care subspecialty.
