Job Description
Director of Assessment & Acad. Institutional Research
Core responsibilities
Assessment & Learning Outcomes (primary)
Lead and coordinate the continuous assessment cycle for undergraduate, graduate, and other programs: outcome writing, curriculum mapping, assessment design, direct/indirect measures, data collection, analysis, and closing the loop.
Maintain centralized assessment calendar, repository, and standardized report templates.
Provide consultation to faculty and staff on assessment methodology, rubric design, reliable scoring, and interpreting results.
Oversee assessment tool(s) administration (e.g., Watermark), ensure data integrity, and manage training.
Produce periodic assessment summaries and trend analyses for academic leadership.
Program Review & Program Viability (distinct, cyclical)
Assist with program review: enrollment trends, retention and completion metrics, student-learning evidence, course and faculty productivity, cost-per-credit and cost-per-graduate, adjunct reliance, and labor-market alignment.
Accreditation Maintain an understanding of the requirements of HLC criteria and USDOE policy changes and their institutional implications, as applicable.
Conduct periodic compliance audits of assessment and program review activities and remediate gaps.
Training, Capacity Building & Communication
Design and deliver workshops and one‑on‑one coaching for faculty, staff, and administrators on assessment practices, data literacy, and use of assessment platforms.
Serve as institutional consultant for syllabus-level outcomes alignment and capstone assessment design.
Communicate results, timelines, and expectations clearly across units; produce concise executive summaries for leadership.
Data, Reporting & Decision Support
Track action-plan implementation and report closure rates.
Aid in determining cohort classifications for incoming students to support institutional data analysis and reporting.
Assist with gathering and compiling institutional data for departmental reviews and other reporting needs.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
Education & Experience Qualifications:
Requirements for this position include a Master's degree in a related field and a minimum of 5 years' experience in higher education administration, with demonstrated significant administrative and teaching responsibilities. Terminal Degree is preferred.
Other Skills & Abilities:
Must have the ability to operate a personal computer and keyboard, printers, telephone, facsimile, typewriter, and other office equipment. Manual dexterity to handle books, software, and a variety of media formats is necessary. Knowledge of and practice with emerging technologies is preferred. Strong communication skills and ability to build consensus.
Other Information & Attributes:
The position will, on occasion, require scheduled evenings and travel to state meetings.
