Dartmouth College:
Thayer School of Engineering Location Hanover, NH Open Date Jan 08, 2026 Description Position Summary This postdoctoral position is part of a project funded by the Heising Simons Foundations to deliver actionable sea level contributions from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets, recently awarded to Dartmouth College. The overall aim of this postdoctoral project is to guide and support the next generation of Ice Sheet Model Intercomparison Project (ISMIP) Antarctic ice sheet projections in close collaboration with other international ISMIP partners. Join this growing, multidisciplinary team to help advance new understanding of polar regions and improve projections of sea level rise. Position Description The position is part of the international community effort ISMIP7 ( https://www.ismip.org/ ) which is currently developing the protocols for the next generation of ice sheet projections. The goal is to provide sea-level change contributions from the Greenland and Antarctic ice sheets and associated uncertainties that will inform the next report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC). The postdoctoral researcher will i) implement and test the ISMIP7 experimental protocols for forcing the Antarctic ice sheet with atmospheric and oceanic boundary conditions as well as ice shelf collapse with one ice sheet model (Ice-sheet and Sea-level System Model, ISSM) ahead of general application by the wider modeling groups; ii) interact with the ISMIP7 forcing focus groups to further improve the protocols if needed; iii) guide the ice sheet modeling groups with support and advice in terms of protocol implementation and data handling; iv) contribute to the intercomparison with simulations and outputs of one model (ISSM); v) collect, organize and quality check output data from the participating modeling groups; vi) perform the analysis of the ensemble projections and discuss, publish and disseminate the results. Key Accountabilities Test experimental protocol and help improve its design. Interact with and provide support to modeling group performing Antarctic experiments.
