  • Thurs Brief Job Overview/Summary The Temporary Research Assistant supports coastal and environmental research projects through field, technical, and analytical assistance.
This position works collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to advance research objectives while maintaining high standards of research quality and safety.
Descriptions of Essential Duties/Responsibilities:
  • Mentor undergraduate students in the procedures of instrument preparation, fieldwork, and data analysis
  • Lead a team of undergraduate students to prepare Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers, drifters, and other equipment for instrument deployments
  • Plan survey operations in consultation with supervisors
  • Assist with field operations
  • Update MATLAB scripts for data processing with clear documentation. Train students and Coastal Research Center staff on how to implement the scripts
  • Assist with data post-processing
  • Position involves lifting heavy equipment and work aboard small boats
  • Other duties assigned
Required Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's degree in marine science or related field
Preferred Qualifications:
  • Proficient in MATLAB
  • Experience working with Acoustic Doppler Current Profilers and similar oceangraphic instrumentation
  • Experience collecting and analyzing time series data
  • Experience working in teams on coastal research vessels
