GENERAL DUTIES
Supports research projects and activities in connection with CUNY programs May assist faculty research groups by configuring and testing equipment, collecting and organizing data, and preparing documentation. Performs direct research tasks under supervision. May develop or utilize computer-based systems to collect and analyze data. May assist in preparing reports of research findings.

CAMPUS SPECIFIC INFORMATION
The City University of New York (CUNY) School of Medicine (SoM) is the only medical school in the CUNY system. Our innovative curriculum allows students to complete both their undergraduate Bachelor of Science (BS) and Doctor of Medicine (MD) degrees in seven years. CUNY SoM graduated its first MD class in 2020. In addition, the CUNY SoM offers a two-year Physician Assistant (PA) program to prepare health professionals licensed to practice medicine with physician supervision. Our mission is 1) to provide access to medical education to talented youth from historically underrepresented in backgrounds in medicine and to develop health professionals committed to practicing in under-served communities and 2) to perform innovative research in community health and biomedicine. The
CUNY SOM
is currently seeking a Chairperson for the Department of Community Health and Social Medicine (CHASM). The Department plays a critical and leading role in our mission-driven BS/MD program aimed at recruiting those who are under-represented in medicine and producing broadly educated, highly skilled primary care practitioners to provide patient-centered, community-oriented care to underserved communities. The Department's research agenda includes community and population health services, and policy research, psychiatric and chronic disease epidemiology, health behavior, community-based research, addiction and substance abuse disorders, HIV/ AIDS pain, and health cure disparities. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following: Assembles, organizes, and enters epidemiologic research data as needed; Collects and records data, summarizes, and analyzes results using basic statistics. Assists in maintaining and updating sponsor-related, university and department databases/logs. Works with multiple collaborators participating in cutting
  • edge research specific to public health initiatives and discusses progress of work regularly with Principal Investigator. Writes technical reports and scientific papers under faculty mentorship, with a possibility of becoming the first
  • and/or co-author(s) on publications and presents project results at internal and external scientific meetings and conferences.
Build and maintain partnerships with data registries, schools, social service agencies, clinics, hospitals, housing providers, and faith-based organizations to strengthen referral networks. Conduct outreach at community events, schools, cultural organizations, and local businesses to promote community health and social medicine services and research initiatives. Perform other duties as assigned by the Chair of the department
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience relevant to the research being performed.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED
Postdoctoral individuals who have recently completed a doctoral degree in community health, social sciences, or chronic disease or cancer-related field highly preferred Experience in research projects in community health and social medicine highly preferred. Ability to work in a team environment as well as independently, and willingness to learn new skills Strong organization, writing, publication, and communication skills
COMPENSATION
Salary Range:
$47,063
  • $57,418 Sakary commensurate with education and experience.
