The Panicker Lab investigates the molecular mechanisms that drive pathology in Dementia with Lewy bodies (DLB), Parkinson's Disease (PD), and Alzheimer's Disease (AD), with the eventual goal of developing therapeutics that block or slow disease progression. We study cell-death pathways in neurodegenerative diseases, and how neuroinflammation (primarily mediated by microglial cells in the brain) contributes to the pathogenesis of neurologic disorders. Our current projects explore the mechanisms and consequences of Nod-Like Receptor Protein-3 (NLRP3) inflammasome assembly by using cellular and molecular approaches in transgenic-mouse and iPSC disease models of DLB, PD and AD. As a Research Technician on our team, you will perform laboratory techniques and procedures required for assigned experimental studies, assist with establishing and scheduling analyses, conduct tests using a range of laboratory equipment and instrumentation, and assemble experimental results for review by research staff. https://www.lerner.ccf.org/neurosciences/panicker/ A caregiver in this role works days from 9:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. (flexible start/end times) A caregiver who excels in this role will: Perform laboratory techniques procedures required for experimental studies. Perform technical lab duties as delegated by the Research Staff Supervisor related to the assigned project. Schedule and perform the various analyses needed to complete the project. Assist with establishing and scheduling of various procedures and analysis. Prepare reagents and purify chemicals using chromatography, distillation, etc. Identify, separate and quantify various substances. Conduct tests and procedures utilizing various laboratory equipment and instrumentation. Accumulate data from analyses, prepare charts, graphs, statistical tables for presentation to Research Staff Supervisor for final analysis and preparation for publication, grant proposals and applications for research funds. Potentially order laboratory supplies and equipment. Minimum qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: High School Diploma or GED and two years of experience in a research or related laboratory environment OR Associate's Degree in a laboratory science field and one year of experience OR Bachelor's Degree Preferred qualifications for the ideal future caregiver include: Comfortable handing small research animals
Physical Requirements:
Ability to perform work in a stationary position for extended periods Ability to operate a computer and other office equipment Ability to communicate and exchange accurate information Ability to distinguish color Manual dexterity to handle specimens and repair equipment Ability to lift and transport equipment or specimens weighing up to 20 pounds May be exposed to hazardous chemicals, bio-hazards, radioactive materials, etc.
