The Associate Director of Institutional Research plays a key leadership role in advancing data-informed decision-making at a highly selective women's liberal arts college. Reporting to the Director of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment and working closely with senior leadership, faculty, and administrative partners, the Associate Director supports institutional planning, assessment, accreditation, and compliance through the collection, analysis, interpretation, and communication of high-quality institutional data. This full-time staff position has an anticipated schedule of 35 hours per week and is eligible for 22 days of vacation per year, three days personal leave, generous holiday time (including an extended winter break between Christmas Eve and New Year's Day), sick leave, short- and long-term disability, life insurance, medical, dental, and vision, retirement, paid parental leave, tuition opportunities, and more. Waiting periods may apply.Characteristic Responsibilities:
Institutional Research & Analysis Design, conduct, and interpret quantitative and qualitative analyses related to enrollment, retention, graduation rates, student success, faculty and staff trends, and post-graduate outcomes. Lead or support longitudinal and cohort analyses, peer benchmarking, and predictive modeling to inform strategic planning and policy decisions. Translate complex data into clear, actionable insights for diverse audiences, including senior leadership, faculty committees, and staff. Reporting & Compliance Oversee preparation and submission of required external reports, including IPEDS, Common Data Set, state and federal reporting, and other mandated surveys. Ensure accuracy, consistency, and documentation of institutional data definitions and methodologies. Serve as a key contributor to accreditation reporting, program reviews, and self-study processes. Assessment & Effectiveness Partner with academic and administrative units to support assessment of student learning, co-curricular outcomes, and institutional effectiveness. Provide consultation to departments on assessment design. Support campus initiatives related to student success through disaggregated data analysis. Data Governance & Systems Contribute to data governance efforts, including data standards, stewardship, and best practices for ethical data use. Collaborate with Library and Information Technology Services (LITS) and other offices to optimize use of student information systems, survey platforms, dashboards, and visualization tools. Develop and maintain dashboards, data visualizations, and internal reports to support timely decision-making. Leadership & Collaboration Supervise and mentor analysts or student assistants as applicable. Represent the Office of Institutional Research, Planning, and Assessment on campus committees and cross-functional teams. Stay current with trends and best practices in institutional research, higher education policy, and data analytics. Other Duties asAssigned Qualifications:
Master's degree in higher education, statistics, social science, public policy, data analytics, or a related field. Minimum of 5 years of progressively responsible experience in institutional research, assessment, or higher education analytics. Demonstrated expertise in quantitative analysis, research design, and data visualization. Experience with IPEDS, Common Data Set, and accreditation reporting. Proficiency with statistical software and data tools (e.g., R, SPSS, SQL, Tableau, Power BI). Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to present data clearly to non-technical audiences. Experience in a selective liberal arts college and/or women's college environment preferred. Familiarity with student information systems (e.g., Slate, PowerFAIDS, Workday). Supervisory or project leadership experience preferred. Successful completion of satisfactory background checks.
