Job Description

Research Assistant Professor (Appointment Stream) Bioengineering - Pennsylvania-Pittsburgh - ( 26003034 ) The Department of Bioengineering at the University of Pittsburgh Swanson School of Engineering ( engineering.pitt.edu/bioengineering ) invites applications from accomplished individuals with a PhD or equivalent degree in bioengineering, biomedical engineering, or closely related disciplines for an appointment stream Research Assistant Professor faculty position in the Vascular Bioengineering Lab (VBL). Applicants should have more than four years of postdoctoral experience or equivalent experience carrying out independent as well as collaborative research in the areas of tissue engineering and regenerative medicine, particularly involving the development of functionalized biomaterials and extracellular vesicle (EV) isolation and engineering. The position involves the isolation of endothelial colony forming cells (ECFCs) from healthy and aneurysmal patients for characterization and identifying novel therapeutic candidates, as well assessing cord-blood derived ECFCs as a therapeutic cell type for functionalization of tissue engineered vascular grafts (TEVGs). The position responsibilities include writing grant applications as principle and co-investigator and contributing to scientific advancements to the VBL and its mission. The Research Assistant Professor will also be responsible for leading and facilitating collaborative research, publishing in peer-reviewed journals, and presenting findings at scientific meetings. The appointment will be for 2 years. Continuation of the appointment beyond this initial funding will be contingent on successful grant applications to support the position and the research.
