The Department of Astronomy and Astrophysics at Penn State has an immediate opening for an Associate Research Professor (non-tenure line) with expertise in data analytics. A major portion of the successful candidate's duties will include analysis and interpretation of cosmological data generated by the Simons Observatory. Examples of specific tasks include analysis techniques, algorithms, web tools, networking, and system administration. Additional data-related tasks may include assistance with various calibrations and mapmaking. Working closely and effectively with other members of the Simons Observatory team will be imperative. The position also requires liaising with efforts at the Flatiron Institute. The successful candidate will also be expected to integrate into the department with a goal of creating new scientific collaborations. Education and Experience An associate research professor should possess a terminal degree or its equivalent in an academic field related to their research. The candidate must have demonstrated ability as a researcher; and must have shown evidence of professional growth and scholarship in their discipline. An associate research professor typically has a minimum of 5 years of postdoctoral experience in a research environment.
