Job Summary:
The Center for Bioethics and Humanities (CBH) at the University of Colorado is seeking qualified applicants for a full time, tenure eligible faculty position at the rank of Assistant Professor. The primary role and responsibility for this new faculty position will be to conduct extramurally funded research on topics at the intersection of bioethics, health policy and/or the health humanities. We have a special interest in individuals working in the field of Artificial Intelligence (AI) ethics, law and policy in medical research, education, or clinical care, to complement our growing portfolio of AI related bioethics research. However, we will consider applications from candidates working in other topic areas in bioethics. Working in close collaboration with CBH leadership, CBH faculty and experienced investigators across the University, the successful candidate will be expected to develop and pursue an independent program of empirical research in bioethics. The CBH has a large network of productive inter-professional relationships in place with leading researchers in public health, medicine, health policy, health humanities, and other areas within which the successful candidate can build their own interdisciplinary and collaborative research agenda- which is essential to launching a successful research career.
Key Responsibilities:
Develop a research program of national and international importance on topics at the intersection of bioethics, health policy and/or the health humanities; Apply for extramural research funding for a career development or similar award; Publish the results of their research in peer-reviewed journals; Present research in appropriate venues to increase the awareness of research being performed in the faculty member's research program, to facilitate collaborations and interactions, and to increase the visibility of research impacts; Interact effectively and collegially with other CBH and departmental faculty and staff to establish fruitful research collaborations. Within 3 years of being hired, the new faulty member will be expected to have received a career development award from the NIH or another federal source (or similar levels of funding from other sources). During the initial 3 years, teaching/mentoring and service responsibilities will be limited. Clinicians will have the opportunity for clinical service, tailored to their career goals and needs.Work Location:
This role is eligible for a hybrid schedule of 3 days per week on campus and as needed for in-person meetings.Why Join Us:

Minimum Qualifications:
Applicants must meet minimum qualifications at the time of hire. A doctoral degree (MD, JD, PhD, ScD, DPH, or equivalent); Formal training in one or more research methodologies including intervention research, surveys, qualitative research (individual interviews and/or focus groups), case studies, mixed methods, experimental designs, meta-analyses, systematic reviews, and/or quantitative analysis of large datasets. Demonstrated training/experience in bioethics; Demonstrated experience publishing the results of empirical research on issues in bioethics in peer reviewed journals.Preferred Qualifications:
Experience in writing grants, conducting extramural research and publishing articles reporting the results of empirical research; Experience collaborating with interdisciplinary teams in writing research proposals and conducting original research.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
To be successful in this position, candidates will need the following: Knowledge of current ethical issues in medicine, public health, health policy and other relevant areas; Excellent written and oral communication skills; An ability to engage in team-based science and work collaboratively across methodologies and disciplines; Commitment to pursuing and obtaining a K-level career development award from the NIH (or equivalent funding from other sources) within 1-3 years; Clear dedication to developing an independently funded research career in bioethics; A primary research focus in bioethics, with a substantial and well-defined research component; Strong passion for research, a well-developed proposal for a training award, and the requisite research training and experience to support it.
