Job Description

The Global Security Directorate at Savannah River National Laboratory (SRNL) is seeking candidates for a Nonproliferation Research Scientist. This directorate has diverse research projects concerning nuclear material science and operations, nuclear processing activities, collecting and measuring environmental samples, nonproliferation monitoring, and improving analytical methods in support of such activities. SRNL is seeking to grow external funding in these focus areas and scientists/engineers interested with serving as principal investigators on these focus areas. The successful candidate will be lead multiple research projects and develop new proposal concepts in support of these focus areas.
Minimum Qualifications:
PhD + 6-10 years in Analytical Chemistry, Nuclear Chemistry, Physics, Chemical Engineering, or other scientific fields. Must have experience with seeking external funding for research projects at DOE national laboratories. For ability to obtain and maintain a security clearance, US Citizenship is
Legally Required Preferred Qualifications:
Understanding the different external funding sources for DOE national laboratories. Having experience with leading and motivating a research team to meet tasks and deliverables while maintaining good lab practices and quality standards. Having an established reputation with associated mission sponsors and stakeholders. Understanding of nuclear processing and nonproliferation monitoring activities and gaps that require further research. Having a proven track record of obtaining external funding through proposal generation for competitive open calls and/or broad agency announcements for the DOE national laboratories. Planning and overseeing the safe execution of the work or technical activities. Developing research proposals with new research ideas to bring new work scope and funding to SRNL for yourself and your team members. Communicating task requirements, project status, risks, and outcomes to team members and sponsors. Managing financial aspects, scope performance, and reporting of project activities. Ensuring the accuracy and acceptability of publications, reports, and presentations prior to delivery. Performing impactful research that can be published in peer-reviewed publications. Participating in the development of hazards analysis reports and work control documents for research activities. Serving as a Point of Contact for specific program sponsors.
