$16/hr.Position Description:
Under the direct supervision of the Vital Statistics Supervisor, this position assists customers over the telephone, in person, by fax, and electronically by email while following departmental policies and procedures. Assists in registering and issuing certificates as requested for all births and deaths occurring within the City limits of Amarillo and rural Potter County. Aids in any and/or all aspects of inquiries related to retrieval of birth or death records using applicable software including but not limited to Eagle, TxEver, and Tyler Cashiering. Provides support in all aspects of taking and maintaining accurate payments and Assists utility customers over the telephone and in person in all areas affecting customer accounts. Assists in accessing available birth and death records that have been submitted to the State of Texas and prepares them for issuance using the Texas Electronic Registrar software. Performs minor bookkeeping duties and makes numerous data entries on CRT terminal. Maintains a high level of confidentiality.Vital Statistics Agent Minimum Requirements:
Graduation from high school or GED is required. One (1) year of office or clerical experience involving a high degree of public contact is required. Must have knowledge of modern office practices and bookkeeping principles. Must have typing skills, 30wpm is preferred. Must have working knowledge of a calculator, two-way radio, and CRT terminal. Bilingual (English/Spanish) is a plus. Must pass secured fingerprint and background check to maintain vital records. The City may consider all related education and/or experience in determining an applicant's minimum qualifications and starting salary.Additional Requirements:
Ability to deal effectively with others in a courteous manner. Ability to prepare and maintain accurate records. Ability to speak in a clear and concise manner. Ability to operate a variety of office equipment. Ability to ask appropriate questions to obtain necessary information. Ability to make sound judgments regarding customer issues. Ability to apply and calculate various rates associated with City services. Ability to operate a personal computer. Ability to understand and operate a variety of computer programs simultaneously. Ability to cope with heavy public traffic both in person and by phone with constant interruptions. Ability to multi-task.
