Job Description
The Sr. Research Analyst develops, analyzes, and disseminates institutional data to support strategic planning, operational decision-making, and compliance with state and federal reporting requirements. This position conducts complex data analysis, produces statistical reports and dashboards, supports institutional research initiatives, and collaborates with campus stakeholders to provide accurate and timely information for internal and external reporting.

Conducts complex data analysis using statistical and analytical methodologies. Compiles, validates, and maintains multiple sources of institutional data. Performs historical trend analysis, benchmarking, and comparative studies. Develops written reports and analytical summaries for institutional leadership and stakeholders. Prepares publications and presentations incorporating narrative explanations, charts, tables, and data visualizations. Researches best practices and comparative institutional data among peer and aspirational universities.Institutional, State, and Federal Reporting:
Extracts, compiles, and validates data required for institutional, state, and federal reporting. Coordinates with university departments to gather required reporting information. Submits and reconciles data for required reporting entities including the Legislative Budget Board, Integrated Postsecondary Education Data System (IPEDS), and the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board. Maintains schedules for required reports, surveys, and ad hoc information requests. Supports reporting needs for academic program reviews, grant proposals, quality initiatives, and public information requests.Data Visualization and Analytics Infrastructure:
Develops and maintains institutional dashboards and visualizations using Tableau or similar data visualization tools. Designs and maintains data source structures and data flows using SQL and related tools. Manages visualization environments including user permissions, server configurations, and scheduled refreshes where applicable. Ensures data integrity and usability across visualization and reporting platforms.Data Support and Stakeholder Consultation:
Provides technical assistance to university stakeholders regarding institutional data and reporting systems. Responds to data requests and develops custom reports to support operational and strategic decision-making. nvestigates data discrepancies and collaborates with departments to resolve inconsistencies. Advises stakeholders on appropriate metrics, data sources, and analytical approaches.Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution in data analytics, statistics, information systems, institutional research, or a related field. Three (3) or more years of experience in quantitative data analysis, institutional research, business intelligence, or a related analytical field. Demonstrated experience writing SQL queries and working with relational databases. Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint, and other data analysis or reporting tools. Experience compiling, analyzing, and interpreting large datasets. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously while maintaining accuracy and attention to detail. Ability to work collaboratively with stakeholders across departments to gather and interpret data.Desired Qualifications:
Master's degree in data analytics, statistics, institutional research, public administration, higher education administration, or a related field. Experience with Tableau or other data visualization platforms. Experience working with higher education data reporting systems such as IPEDS or state reporting systems. Familiarity with higher education institutional research practices and benchmarking methodologies.Key Competencies:
Advanced knowledge of data analysis methodologies, statistical concepts, and institutional research practices. Ability to analyze large datasets and translate complex findings into clear, actionable insights. Proficiency in SQL and relational database querying. Experience with data visualization tools such as Tableau or similar platforms. Strong written and verbal communication skills for preparing reports and presenting findings. Ability to manage multiple analytical projects simultaneously with strong attention to detail. Ability to collaborate effectively with technical and non-technical stakeholders across the institution. Knowledge of higher education reporting requirements and compliance frameworks.Physical Requirements:
Sedentary work that primarily involves sitting, with occasional standing, walking, or lifting up to 10 pounds.Job Conditions:
Work is performed primarily in a standard office environment with extended periods of computer use.
