Job Description

The Orange County Historical Society, a non-profit organization committed to preserving the history of Orange County, Virginia, is seeking a part-time Administrative/Research Assistant to perform administrative and clerical duties, research support, and member assistance tasks at our office at 130 Caroline Street, Orange, VA. The successful candidate must demonstrate creative problem solving, great organization skills, and have excellent interpersonal communication skills. Knowledge of Historic Preservation is not required for this position. Duties would include but not be limited to the following:
  • Act as receptionist: welcoming, orienting, and assisting visitors with basic research as needed.
  • Demonstrate strong customer service skills.
  • Ability to efficiently work with MS Office software (e.g., Word, Excel, Powerpoint), Google software, and OCHS email including timely responses to email inquiries, etc, and operate basic office equipment.
  • Ability to perform clerical and administrative functions.
  • Demonstrate strong written and oral communication skills for interacting with members, the public, and Board of Directors
  • Successfully conduct self-directed work following a set of organizational priorities and business practices.
  • Have a general interest and/or familiarity with the local history.
Work Schedule and Compensation:
  • Pay will be $15.45 per hour for 8-12 hours per week. Hours may change as other staff work schedules or organizational priorities dictate.
