To learn more visit www.dot ca.gov . The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is seeking to hire a student assistant, in a learning capacity, under close supervision. In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in a wide range of services relating to the Biological Studies and Surveys Unit. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. Duties and Responsibilities In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in a variety of responsible professional scientific field work, including assigned environmental and natural resource analysis, research, surveys, investigations and studies. The Student Assistant may help prepare and analyze methodologies for technical resource studies in compliance with various environmental laws and regulations and will assist in field surveys. In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in scientific office work, including preparation of Environmental Documents and technical analysis which require a high degree of competency in environmental impact analysis. They may assist in helping draft reports for compliance for regulatory agencies to ensure compliance with environmental laws and regulations during all phases of transportation projects. In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in a variety of responsible professional scientific tasks designed to compile and analyze data gathered from complex field surveys to create avoidance and minimize measures for inclusion in environmental documents. The Student Assistant may conduct oversight and review technical studies for encroachment permits, review local agency documents and be able to identify and articulate impacts and evaluate recommended environmental mitigation measures. In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in coordination meetings with Caltrans and state and federal and local agency partners. In a learning capacity, the Student Assistant will assist in Maintain project file, update Caltrans' Environmental Division's database (STEVE Tool), manage the cost, scope, and schedule of transportation projects within the position's purview.
