On-site Position Summary:
WGI is seeking an Operational History Analyst to be responsible for providing support to the United States Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) by advising on the collection, analysis and application of historical data to ongoing and future operations. This position supports government personnel in maintaining institutional knowledge, developing lessons learned, and integrating historical insight into planning, training, and capability development efforts across the SOF Enterprise. The analyst will collaborate closely with operational planners, intelligence analysts, and program officers to ensure historical trends, precedents, and case studies to inform command decision-making and strategic assessments. Roles and Responsibilities include but are not limited to : Provide analytical and programmatic support to USSOCOM in capturing, organizing, and assessing historical operational data relevant to current and future missions. Assist in developing and maintaining USSOCOM's historical archives, databases, and knowledge repositories. Support the development of lessons learned reports and after-action reviews (AARs), ensuring findings are integrated into planning and training cycles. Conduct research and analysis of past SOF operations, campaigns, and interagency activities to identify enduring lessons learned and best practices. Prepare detailed historical reports, timelines, and briefings for leadership, staff elements, and operational planners. Advise on the integration of historical perspectives into operational concepts, capability development, and doctrine refinement. Coordinate with the Joint Staff, Combatant Commands, Service Components, and interagency organizations to share historical data and synchronize analytical efforts. Support the curation and management of classified and unclassified historical materials in compliance with DoD and USSOCOM security protocols. Develop and manage documentation to support command historical programs, anniversary events, and strategic communications initiatives.
Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in a related discipline; 8 years of relevant experience may be substituted in lieu of a degree. Minimum of 8 years of experience in historical research, analysis, or documentation within the DoD, Joint, or Interagency environment Familiarity with operational history programs, military archives, or lessons learned processes. Strong analytical and research skills with the ability to synthesize complex historical data into actionable insights. Excellent written and oral communication skills, including experience preparing high-level reports and briefings. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and database management tools; experience with document management systems preferred. Ability to manage multiple priorities in a dynamic environment while maintaining attention to detail. Understanding of DoD classification guidance and security procedures for handling sensitive information. Familiarity with USSOCOM's historical initiatives, command archives, and lessons learned frameworks. Experience integrating historical analysis into operational planning, capability development, or training environments. Shall possess and maintain a current TS/SCI clearance.
