Job Description

AmeriCorps State & National Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy Projects Assistant Pay:
Approx. $2,400 per month Job description: About us Each year, tens of thousands of individuals serve with AmeriCorps programs to make a positive impact and to bring lasting improvements to communities in all 50 U.S. states, territories, and select tribal nations. Serving with an AmeriCorps State and National program through The Service Collaborative of WNY, Inc. puts you in an environment that propels your personal development, opens diverse career paths, and promotes lifelong civic engagement. Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy (BOPC) stewards the City of Buffalo's historic Olmsted park and parkway system to benefit and to welcome all. The Conservancy works towards this through collaboration with community and strategic partners, advocating for quality parks for all, and enhancing the park system through beautification, maintenance and capital projects. The vision of the BOPC is to create an exceptional park network for all of Buffalo through equitable access to beautiful, quality and thriving parks; restorative green spaces that support our people and respect nature and the environment; and joyful opportunities to play, create, commune and discover. Individuals who enrolled in BOPC's AmeriCorps cohort can expect a hands-on, collaborative experience focused on stewarding some of the region's most historic and treasured green spaces. Working alongside park staff and system-wide teams, volunteers help design and carry out comprehensive landscape management plans that balance preservation with innovation. This may include maintaining historic plantings, improving ecological health, restoring key features, and enhancing the overall visitor experience. Through this work, volunteers play a direct role in protecting the parks' cultural heritage while ensuring they remain vibrant, accessible, and sustainable spaces for the community to enjoy now and in the future. During your AmeriCorps term, you'll find yourself at the forefront of impactful environmental initiatives. Collaborating with a dynamic team of fellow AmeriCorps members, experienced environmentalists, and passionate community volunteers, you'll learn valuable skills in project development and management. As an AmeriCorps member, you'll contribute directly to the region's sustainability goals while honing your own professional growth. Every day will be filled with opportunities to get hands-on experience in a variety of activities. Beyond the tangible accomplishments, these AmeriCorps service opportunities promise personal and career development that extends far beyond the term itself. You'll gain a profound understanding of the intricate connections between environmental health and community well-being, setting a strong foundation for a future career dedicated to making a lasting impact. As countless national service program alums will attest to, these experiences offer incredibly valuable additions to any resume and provide significant help to those seeking to jumpstart a career in the nonprofit sector. AmeriCorps service will not only enhance your leadership abilities and teamwork skills but also cultivate your passion for environmental conservation. As an AmeriCorps member, you'll leave a legacy of positive change in Buffalo, NY, and be empowered to inspire others to become stewards of our planet.
