Job Description
With a team of scientists, engineers, and dedicated professionals, the Department of Conservation (DOC) administers programs that are essential to California's public safety, environmental protection, and long‑term sustainability. DOC's work supports the responsible use and conservation of the state's energy, land, and mineral resources, balancing today's needs with future obligations. CalGEM (the California Geologic Energy Management Division) focuses on protecting public health, safety, and the environment in its oversight of the oil, natural gas, and geothermal industries. The division uses science‑based decision‑making and sound engineering practices to regulate the drilling, operation, and closure of energy resource wells, while also supporting California's climate and clean‑energy goals. For more information, please visit: https://www.conservation.ca.gov/calgem The Department of Conservation's CalGEM Central District is seeking to hire eleven Student Assistants to support a wide range of data and administrative tasks that help maintain and improve our oil and gas program records. Students will assist with organizing, scanning, reviewing, and archiving well files, logs, maps, and other documents; entering and updating data in various databases; helping reduce backlogs in project reviews; conducting basic research to support engineering and geologic staff; compiling information for reports and mapping projects; and assisting with general office support as needed. Some assignments may involve working with historical well records, reviewing application materials for completeness, preparing data for technical evaluations, or helping organize geologic and water quality information. Duties will vary depending on team assignment, but all positions involve hands-on experience with data management, document processing, and supporting technical staff in a professional regulatory environment. Conditions of Employment This is a part-time, temporary, non-benefited, student position. Employment in all positions with University Enterprises, Inc. is dependent upon the mutual consent of University Enterprises, Inc. and the employee. This means that either University Enterprises, Inc. or the employee can, at any time, terminate the employment relationship at will, with or without cause. Prerequisites Must be a college student attending classes during the regular term (Fall, Spring and Winter, if applicable), at one of the accredited colleges or universities on our affiliation list.
