The Durstenfeld and Hsue laboratory in the Department of Medicine, Division of Cardiology at UCLA, is recruiting a highly motivated Specialist at the Assistant, Associate, or full rank, to support our research program in cardiopulmonary exercise testing and interpretation. The Specialist will perform cardiopulmonary exercise testing locally and oversee quality control and interpretation for research studies conducting cardiopulmonary testing at other sites, working closely with Dr. Durstenfeld to oversee the CPET core lab and standard operating procedures. Duties will include developing protocols, site initiation, real-time data quality monitoring, measurement of key physiological variables, CPET interpretation, case report form development, and study team training, and may also include development of structured exercise training protocols for research. Appointees in the Specialist series will be expected to engage in specialized research, professional activities and do not have teaching responsibilities. Specialists are expected to use their professional expertise to make scientific and scholarly contributions, and may participate in University and Public Service. The candidate should have at least 2 years of experience and a Master's or Ph.D. in exercise science, physiology, or related field. The successful candidate should have experience conducting clinical or research cardiopulmonary exercise testing, preferably with MGC and Jaeger/Viasys Metabolic Carts. Specific expertise is listed below. Experience performing and interpreting Cardiopulmonary Exercise Testing Ability to safely and consistently perform cardiopulmonary exercise testing according to research protocols including real-time monitoring of vital signs and electrocardiography Ability to work with cardiologists and pulmonologists to oversee the CPET core lab for a multicenter clinical trial and other observational studies ACSM Certified Clinical Exercise Physiologists (ACSM-CEP), ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologists (ACSM-EP), ASEP Exercise Physiologist Certified (EPC), or equivalent ACLS training Additional qualifications: Management skills to organize the lab orders and inventory Expertise to ensure the compliance with lab protocol and safety in UCLA and other university and government policies Ability to communicate with core lab leadership and other research sites The shared values of the DGSOM are expressed in the Cultural North Star, which was developed by members of our community and affirms our unswerving commitment to doing what's right, making things better, and being kind.
