Job Title:
Agronomist Job Description Join a dedicated research and development team to help design and optimize innovative cropping systems in water-limited and managed irrigation environments. In this role, you will contribute to the development, execution, and analysis of systems-level agronomic trials across multiple crops, transforming field research into practical agronomic recommendations. You will collaborate closely with farmers, agronomists, and research partners over a multi-year project, gaining extensive in-field experience while advancing sustainable, high-performing crop systems. Responsibilities Collaborate with the R D team to design and refine new cropping systems tailored to water-limited and managed irrigation environments. Design, implement, and manage multi-crop, systems-level agronomic trials across multiple locations and growing seasons. Analyze field trial data and translate findings into clear, practical agronomic recommendations. Lead and manage research collaborations with internal teams and external partners, including universities and other research organizations. Work directly with farmers and agronomists to coordinate field activities, gather feedback, and ensure successful implementation of trials. Plan and coordinate experiments across multiple locations, ensuring protocols are followed and timelines are met. Conduct field activities such as plot establishment, data collection, sampling, and monitoring under varying environmental conditions. Utilize data analysis tools and processes to interpret research results and support data-driven decision-making. Communicate research plans, progress, and results through clear written reports, presentations, and verbal updates. Travel to field sites across multiple states to support trial establishment, monitoring, and data collection throughout the growing season. Essential Skills PhD or MS in agronomy, plant physiology, plant breeding, ecology, or a closely related field, with an emphasis in water-limited cropping systems. 5+ years of experience in agronomy, agriculture, or a closely related industry. Strong knowledge of and applied, in-field experience with multi-crop systems. Experience with field research processes, including experimental design, trial execution, and data collection. Proficiency in data analysis and utilization of research data to inform agronomic recommendations. Excellent interpersonal skills to build and maintain strong internal and external working relationships, including with farmers and agronomists. Strong organizational skills to plan, coordinate, and manage experiments across multiple locations and timelines. Ability to work independently as a highly motivated and self-directed scientist. Strong written and verbal communication skills for reporting, documentation, and stakeholder communication. Ability to work in varying outdoor environments to conduct field activities such as data collection and monitoring. Willingness and ability to travel as needed to field locations. Additional Skills & Qualifications Research experience with brassica crops is advantageous. Experience or interest in renewable fuels and related crop systems is beneficial. Experience in research and development environments within agronomy, agriculture, ecology, or plant breeding. Familiarity with cropping systems in water-limited or managed irrigation environments. Ability to collaborate effectively within multidisciplinary teams that include agronomists, researchers, and field staff. Work Environment This role is primarily field-based and supports a two-year project focused on real-time, in-field research. You will work in an outdoor environment throughout the year and must be comfortable working in all weather conditions. The position involves regular travel to and from university and research fields across a north-south corridor from Texas to North Dakota, with travel typically starting in Texas around February and progressing northward through North Dakota by September to align with the growing season. You will work closely with an R D team and field collaborators, using standard agricultural field research equipment and data collection tools. The work schedule follows the demands of the growing season and field operations, which may require flexibility in hours during peak periods. Job Type & Location This is a Contract position based out of North Platte, NE. Pay and Benefits The pay range for this position is $35.00 - $42.00/hr.
