Visiting Scholar Department:
FAES | Entomology The Visiting Scholar will gain hands-on experience across a variety of agricultural systems while supporting applied research initiatives at the Wooster Campus, College of Food, Agricultural, and Environmental Sciences. This position focuses on integrated pest management, pollinator health, and invasive species research in specialty crops including onions, peppers, cucurbits, and grapes. This is a temporary appointment of less than one year, designed to provide practical field, laboratory, and greenhouse experience in agricultural research. Key Responsibilities Assist with field experiment setup, including planting, plot layout, and treatment applications Conduct data collection in field and greenhouse environments Support greenhouse experiments, including plant care and maintenance Participate in research projects focused on: Integrated vegetable pest management (onions and peppers) Pollinator health in cucurbit production Invasive species management in grape systems Record, organize, and maintain accurate research data Assist with general research station operations and maintenance as needed Required Qualifications Bachelor's degree (BA/BS) in a related field, including but not limited to: Agriculture Plant Science Horticulture Entomology Crop Science Plant Pathology Biology (with plant or ecological focus) Demonstrated interest in agricultural research or field-based work Ability to work outdoors in varying weather conditions Strong attention to detail and organizational skills Ability to work independently and as part of a team Preferred Qualifications Prior experience with agricultural fieldwork, research trials, or greenhouse operations Familiarity with pest management practices or pollination ecology Basic data collection and record-keeping experience
