Job Description

This position is responsible for executing the town\'s water quality sampling and reporting program in compliance with all Massachusetts Department of Environmental Protection (MassDEP) and U.S. Environmental Protection Agency drinking water regulations. The position requires an understanding of water chemistry concepts and hydrologic processes in order to evaluate and protect local resources and to transfer related information to other departments, staff, and the public assist in customer service calls and requests related to the water and sewer division. Additionally, this position will be responsible for participating in the departments Outreach and Educational Programs, including special projects. Lastly, this position will assist in maintaining water/sewer GIS data.
Qualifications:
Implements water quality management plans and DEP Sampling schedule by conducting weekly water sampling and analysis at the treatment plants and various sites within the distribution system. Under the Direction of the Water and Sewer Superintendent and/or their designee. Works closely with the Environmental Compliance & Data Manager in writing water quality monthly and quarterly reports. Assists in delivering environmental education, water quality and quantity information, watershed protection concepts, and water conservation programs, and developing reports and/or programs. Participates in communicating environmental information to the public using a variety of mediums (website, newsletter, workshops, etc.). Assists Water and Sewer Administration with coordinating with local, regional, and state organizations to meet Safe Drinking Water Act compliance requirements and manage community based public drinking water and sewer programs. Ensures work is performed in a safe and professional manner by following established safety, operating, and emergency response procedures. Works closely with the Environmental Compliance & Data Manager to address customer service calls and requests related to the water and sewer division. Participates in special projects and other duties as assigned to enhance Water and Sewer Department operations and promote public participation in Water and Sewer Department goals and objectives. Works closely with the Environmental Compliance & Data Manager in maintaining GIS data through the use of ArcGIS applications including ArcPro and Arc applications such as Field Maps Regularly exercises professional expertise, critical thinking judgment and initiative in determining courses of action Performs similar or related work as required and assigned.
