$26.04 per hour JOB SUMMARY
This position is responsible for the operations and maintenance of the wastewater collection and water distribution system. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Involved in the repair, maintenance, replacement, installation, and inspection of sanitary and storm sewer pump stations, water booster pump stations, water towers, water reservoirs, storm holding ponds, and levees. Monitors and troubleshoots control cabinets, the SCADA system, and electrical systems. Maintenance of grounds, holding ponds, canals, and levees; mowing, pruning and trimming, and the application of pesticide. Maintenance of fences. Maintenance of sprinkler systems. Participates in snow removal operations. Responds to after-hours emergencies. On call weekends and holidays. Performs related duties. KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED BY THE POSITION
Knowledge of the operation and maintenance of water distribution and sewer collection systems. Knowledge of pump maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of electrical system maintenance and repair principles. Knowledge of grounds and facilities maintenance principles. Knowledge of systems locations. Knowledge of the operation of a variety of job-related tools and equipment. Skill in problem solving. Skill in prioritizing and planning. Skill in oral and written communication. SUPERVISORY CONTROLS
The Supervisor assigns work in terms of general instructions. The supervisor spot-checks completed work for compliance with procedures, accuracy, and the nature and propriety of final results. GUIDELINES
Guidelines include federal and state environmental rules and regulations, OSHA regulations, the Clean Water Act, and city and department policies and procedures. These guidelines require judgment, selection, and interpretation in application. COMPLEXITY/SCOPE OF WORK
The work consists of varied technical duties. Inclement weather contributes to the complexity of the position. The purpose of this position is to participate in the operations, repair and maintenance of the water distribution and sanitary and storm sewer collection systems. Successful performance helps ensure the efficiency and effectiveness of system operations. CONTACTS
Contacts are typically with coworkers, contractors, vendors, regulatory agents, and the general public. Contacts are typically to exchange information, motivate persons, resolve problems, and provide services. PHYSICAL DEMANDS/ WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work is typically performed while intermittently sitting at a desk or table or while intermittently sitting, standing, stooping, walking, bending, crouching or stooping. The employee frequently lifts light and occasionally heavy objects, climbs ladders, uses tools or equipment requiring a high degree of dexterity, and distinguishes between shades of color. The work is typically performed in an office, stockroom, warehouse, and outdoors, occasionally in cold or inclement weather. The employee is exposed to machinery with moving parts, contagious or infectious diseases, or irritating chemicals. Work requires the use of protective devices such as masks, goggles, gloves, etc. SUPERVISORY AND MANAGEMENT RESPONSIBILITY
None MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Knowledge and level of competency commonly associated with completion of specialized training in the field of work, in addition to basic skills must possess a high school diploma or GED. Experience sufficient to thoroughly understand the work of subordinate positions to be able to answer questions and resolve problems, usually associated with one to three years' experience or service. Possession and maintenance of a valid commercial driver's license issued by the State of South Dakota for the type of vehicle or equipment operated (Class B with Airbrakes and N-Tanker Endorsement) within six (6) months of employment. Possess a Class I Water Distribution or Wastewater Collection Operation Certificate or be able to obtain one within eighteen (18) months of employment. RESIDENCY
All new hires must reside within 40 miles of city limits unless specific approval of City Manager. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT I
