San Gabriel, CA Job Details Full-time $71,000 - $85,000 a year 10 hours ago Qualifications High school diploma or GED Full Job Description As Shelter Services Manager, you'll be an essential player on our team. By managing animal outcomes and placement you'll have a positive impact on our organization and the animals in our care. Description The Shelter Services Manager's role is to manage animal intake, animal outcomes, and multiple partner-based programs that connect animals with owners committed to their well-being to create Companions for Life. This position will review the programs in place and analyze where we can drive improvement, as well as build strong relationships with outside organizations. Responsibilities Include but are not limited to: Manage, train and supervise a team of Animal Care Technicians and Adoption Counselors. Manage animal intake and overall cleaning of kennels and care of animals. Manage the dissemination of education and information about animals available for adoption and information about programs to encourage responsible pet ownership. Develop animal behavior and enrichment program. Socialize animals with potential adopters and other animals as appropriate. Respond to email, phone, web, or in-person inquiries regarding placement programs. Ensure a positive, educational approach to customer service with a goal of educating the public and keeping animals in homes as appropriate. Promote positive relations with the general public, volunteers and staff. Uphold the organization's mission and contribute to building a culture of philanthropy. Work as a team member with other departmental managers. Education/Experience Required High school diploma or equivalent. Must be at least 18 years of age at the time of appointment. 3-5 years of experience working for a non-profit rescue group, humane society, municipal shelter or other animal welfare agency. Preferred Qualifications Bachelor of Arts or Bachelor of Science from an accredited university or college. Bilingual in Spanish or Mandarin. Experience working in an open-access shelter. Knowledge and Abilities Knowledge of animal behavior and the ability to evaluate dogs through a behavior matrix. Ability to train employees on animal enrichment activities. High proficiency with computers - including shelter management software. Experience with and excellence in customer service and the ability to set an example for the staff on polished, positive public interactions with the public and staff members. Strong interpersonal skills for management of staff, volunteers, vendors/contractors and interface with the public. Strong sense of professional judgment and ability to maintain confidentiality. Must be able to work independently with minimal supervision. Physical Demands/Work Environment Work is performed in a setting within an animal shelter facility. Offsite activity at vaccination clinics, special events or at other animal shelters or facilities may be required. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms, climb or balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl; talk or hear and taste or smell. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Typically stand, bend, stoop and crouch while working with staff. Regular movement about the campus to coordinate work. Compensation will be determined based on various factors such as skills, education, and experience. In addition to those factors, IVHS complies with applicable pay equity laws and considers internal equity among current employees when developing the final offer. Please keep in mind that the range mentioned above is the base salary range for the role. Hiring at the maximum of the range would not be typical in order to allow for future and continued salary growth. We also offer a generous benefits package.
