Electronic (Using your CalCareer Account) Job Description and Duties The incumbent will assist in the management and maintenance of various Ecological Reserves and other lands, to maintain the properties in good condition for the benefit of wildlife, plants, unique habitats and public safety. Assist with species surveys, monitoring, data analysis and reporting. Assist with species and habitat management activities, preparation and maintenance of nest sites, wildlife drinkers, removal of non-native plants and animals, and other wildlife management needs on California Department of Fish & Wildlife (CDFW) lands. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. Work with Microsoft computer programs for the purpose of data entry, creating and maintaining species lists and contact lists, and other office duties as needed. Document incidences of encroachments and other indications of violations that threaten the integrity of the resources. Identify maintenance needs due to trespass and vandalism, restoration and public education needs on CDFW managed lands. Respond to public information requests relating to issues on CDFW lands. Assist Reserve Manager in protecting Department lands and ensuring public safety by posting signs, maintaining fencing, light removal of refuse, light maintenance of trails and roads. Assist in the light maintenance of facilities. Collect and remove trash and debris, and transport to appropriate recycling or disposal facilities. Maintain equipment in safe and good working order. Assist Reserve Manager with training and scheduling volunteers. Provide support for public gatherings and Department sponsored conferences. Assist with special hunts or events. Occasional weekend and evening work may be required. The Fish and Wildlife Scientific Aid classification is a non-testing classification. The language below is required for these NT classifications.
- Applicants who receive public assistance under the CalWORKs program shall be given hiring priority consideration as provided in Government Code, Section 19063.
- Applicants who receive public assistance need to identify themselves as CalWORKs recipients in the comments section of the STD 678, Examination/Employment Application.
- Applicants must submit verification of CalWORKs eligibility, which may include the most recent Notice of Action showing Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF) eligibility or a copy of the most recent aid check stub.
- Applicants may obtain verification from the CalWORKs program. If CalWORKs verification is not submitted with the application, it will not be processed as CalWORKs eligible.
- Participation by a public assistance recipient is voluntary and in no event shall any person be subject to sanctions, through loss of benefits or eligibility, for not applying for, accepting, or continuing in a seasonal or entry level non-testing classification opening.
This position may be eligible for a telework opportunity in accordance with departmental policies and operational needs. Employees are currently required to work in-person at least two (2) days per week. Beginning July 1, 2026, employees will be required to work in-person at least four (4) days per week in alignment with Executive Order N-22-25. Additional in-office days may be required based on operational needs. You will find additional information about the job in the . Working Conditions Office located at CDFW's Fillmore Hatchery, adjacent to Cienega Springs Ecological Reserve, in the town of Fillmore, CA. Willingness to work irregular hours, including nights, weekends or holidays and to travel up to 50% of the time to perform field work, including working outdoors sometimes in inclement weather and often on uneven terrain.
