Job Overview As a Wildlife Nursery Rehabilitator, the employee in this position works with orphaned, sick, or injured wildlife, providing daily husbandry care to raise patients to the point of release. The position requires flexibility to support assignments in any area of direct animal care, including indoor or outdoor rehabilitation spaces, release, or triage operations. This role calls for an energetic professional capable of multitasking and adapting to a variety of challenges in a fast-paced environment. The ideal candidate is organized, flexible, and enjoys supporting a wildlife center made up of diverse people and responsibilities. Responsibilities and Duties Prepare diets and formulas; feed and provide fresh water to animals throughout the workday. Clean assigned enclosures (interior and exterior) and ensure patient safety. Provide and install appropriate furnishings inside habitats. Monitor assigned animals for medical or behavioral concerns and alert appropriate staff. Carry out or assist with medical treatments as directed by supervisors or clinic staff. Perform species-specific feedings and adjust regimens according to patient needs. Accurately chart feedings, medications, and behavior; follow directives recorded on behavior sheets and patient records. Capture, move, and transfer animals within the facility; update database records as needed. Provide patient enrichment as advised by a supervisor. Monitor and stock supplies. Perform housekeeping duties such as laundry, dishes, and floors. Maintain cleanliness and safety of all working areas for staff, patients, and volunteers. Provide relief husbandry and other direct animal care across all areas of rehabilitation, including triage, as requested. Mentor or provide direction to volunteers and interns as assigned. Perform other duties as assigned by management. Qualifications Strong animal-handling skills; observant, organized, and communicative. Ability to multitask and prioritize. Ability to lift/move up to 50 lbs for 25 yards; climb, bend, and crawl in confined spaces. Proficient in oral and written communication. Ability to follow written directions and accurately record observations. If not already vaccinated, must be willing and able to receive the rabies pre-exposure vaccine and routine boosters for the duration of employment. Must be able to work outdoors in variable and sometimes extreme weather conditions. Must demonstrate passion, integrity, a positive attitude, and be mission-driven and self-directed. Specific Requirements High school diploma required; degree in biology, zoology, or wildlife management preferred. Wildlife or exotic animal handling experience preferred. Valid Florida driver license and safe driving record required. Work Hours The Center operates 365 days per year; staff should expect to work weekends and holidays on a regular or recurring basis. Scheduled hours are typically 8:30 AM - 5:30 PM with a one-hour unpaid lunch. Overtime must be pre-approved when necessary. As ambassadors of the Center, staff may also be asked to participate in direct guest interactions, after-hours functions, or offsite activities and events.
