Job Description

Job Summary Rodeheaver Boys Ranch is seeking a dependable, hardworking Ranch Hand to assist with daily ranch operations, animal care, barn maintenance, and youth-focused ranch activities. This position includes regular work with horses, livestock, barns, fencing, groundskeeping, and ranch equipment. The right candidate should be comfortable around animals, able to work outdoors, and willing to help maintain a safe, clean, and structured ranch environment. This is a hands-on position for someone who understands that ranch work requires consistency, patience, good judgment, and a strong work ethic. The Ranch Hand will also help support a positive environment for the boys in our program by modeling responsibility, respect, and safe behavior around animals and equipment. Responsibilities Feed and water horses, pigs, poultry, and other ranch livestock Monitor animals for signs of illness, injury, or unusual behavior Groom, handle, lead, and assist with turnout of horses Clean stalls, pens, paddocks, water troughs, tack areas, and barn spaces Help maintain barns, feed rooms, fencing, gates, tack, and ranch equipment Assist with hay storage, feed inventory, and supply organization Operate ranch equipment such as tractors, mowers, weed eaters, trailers, and utility vehicles as assigned Perform mowing, trimming, bush hogging, cleanup, and other groundskeeping duties Assist with ranch events, trail rides, clinics, camps, agriculture programs, 4-H, equine therapy, and livestock projects Help teach boys basic barn chores, animal care, and safe behavior around livestock Model responsibility, respect, patience, and good judgment around youth and animals Report animal health concerns, safety issues, or facility needs promptly Qualifications Previous ranch, farm, livestock, or horse experience preferred Basic knowledge of animal handling and ranch safety Ability to safely handle and work around horses and livestock Ability to lift 50+ pounds regularly Comfortable working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, dust, and normal ranch conditions Valid driver's license required Able to work independently and as part of a team Dependable, self-motivated, and willing to work hard Good with children and able to model appropriate behavior around youth Must be willing to complete required background screening and meet childcare-related employment requirements Preferred Skills Horse handling and riding experience Experience operating tractors, trailers, mowers, and other ranch equipment Basic maintenance and repair skills Experience working with youth, mentoring programs, or residential care Knowledge of fencing, feeding programs, livestock care, and barn organization Schedule Full-time position Some weekends, evenings, and holidays may be required Hours may vary depending on ranch activities, animal care needs, events, and seasonal demands Physical Requirements Frequent lifting, bending, walking, standing, and outdoor labor Ability to work outside for extended periods of time Ability to safely handle livestock, horses, tools, and ranch equipment Must be comfortable working around hay, dirt, dust, animals, feed, and normal barn conditions About Rodeheaver Boys Ranch Rodeheaver Boys Ranch is a Christian residential program for boys located in Palatka, Florida.
